Who's The WEAKEST GOP Candidate for '08?

My money is on Dr. Frist. I pray he gets the nomination. He would be another Bob Dole. Mark Warner, Brian Schweitzer or even Hillary could wipe the floor with him.

George Allen is another weak one. He comes across as smarmy and insincere on television. He has a kind of sneering smile and a know it all attitude - not very likeable. A Frist/Allen ticket would be a dream for Democrats.

The two worrisome ones are McCain and Guiliani. I don't see how either makes it through a primary season dominated by Repub Talibornagains. The wingnuts hate McCain and they can't stand Guiliani's social views. But if either gets the nomination somehow, we have our work cut out for us.

But I think Giuliani is also weak. It might be prejudice, but I think it might be hard for middle America to look at him without thinking, Who did he knock off to get where he is? He oozes sleaze. Kerik struck him a fatal blow.

McCain has broad vague appeal but the people with power hate him, as you said.

If they want to win again, I think they're going to have to find a fresh face.

Hopefully the Republicans will pick someone ideological. Frist would be preferable to Allen; I have a feel Allen will be able to unify his base while presenting a moderate image in the style of Bush.

Unfortunately a large chunk of the electorate votes for the person they'd most like to have a beer with. There is something inherently creepy about Frist:scared:, but Allen can appear (note the use of the word appear) like an affable guy, one you'd like to have a beer with.
He COULD be troublesome.

First of all his pro-choice stance can't get the fundies out in force. Second of all his whoring for bush will turn off any democratic defectors. Third of all he has a closet full of skeletons.

Frist does seem like another Bob Dole. George Allen is dumb as a bag of hammers and comes across as a self important asshole. Santorum is freeking crazy, moderates won't go for him at all and besides he is poised to lose his Senate seat.

Romney scares me a little. I don't know that much about him. McCain, I feel, would easily win a general election. Hagel is almost as electable as McCain, but the buzz seems to have died down on him. There's a long ways to go. He could still make some noise. Jeb still scares the bejezzus out of me.
