A worthwhile cause needs help

Dear friends:

I know all too well the shock and grief of being hit with an event you could not foresee or prevent, and the massive upheaval of life when things go very wrong. So my heart is aching for Lillie & John at Glen Highland Farm/Sweet Border Collie Rescue here in New York state. http://www.glenhighlandfarm.com/ Their rescue facility/camp/farm was hit a few days ago by a brutal storm which destroyed much of the camp's equipment & lodging, and felled numerous beautiful mature trees. Thankfully, there was no loss of life. The extensive damage forced the cancellation of the scheduled camp.

Lillie and John run several camps each year for adults and their dogs, and the income from these camps supports the rescue efforts throughout the year as well as a critically important 2 week camp for inner city kids. Cancellation of the adult camp, therefore, is a heavy financial blow, compounded by the costs of clean-up, repair and re-construction, necessary refunds to those signed up for the camp. All their programs will be deeply affected. Donations from caring people can help offset this. Every donation, however small, adds up - never underestimate what can be done when enough people give just a little.

For those who have not visited Glen Highland Farm, I can say this is a very special place with very special people, and I believe wholeheartedly in their mission. I am always honored to teach at the camps each year, and very proud to call Lillie and John friends. The generosity of spirit that informs every inch and every activity of Glen Highland Farm deserves support, and especially now as they stagger under the weight of this blow.

If you love dogs, if you believe that dogs can change our lives in profound ways and teach us to be better humans, please take a moment to make a donation in the name of the dogs who have taught you well & enriched your life. This is not about supporting Border Collies alone - this is about supporting two extraordinary people who have dedicated their life to promoting non-violent approaches, to opening new possibilities for inner city children, to programs and a daily life that reflect deeply their belief in the power of the human/animal bond. 2. Never had one, or even known many

but I grew up with Aussies (fairly similar disposition and purpose) and now rescue Shibas (also smart, but at almost the opposite end of the disposition scale).

I'll cross post this one. Thanks for the suggestion.
