Spy's Notes on Iraqi Aims Were Shelved, Suit Says

WASHINGTON, July 31 - The Central Intelligence Agency was told by an informant in the spring of 2001 that Iraq had abandoned a major element of its nuclear weapons program, but the agency did not share the information with other agencies or with senior policy makers, a former C.I.A. officer has charged.

In a lawsuit filed in federal court here in December, the former C.I.A. officer, whose name remains secret, said that the informant told him that Iraq's uranium enrichment program had ended years earlier and that centrifuge components from the scuttled program were available for examination and even purchase.

The officer, an employee at the agency for more than 20 years, including several years in a clandestine unit assigned to gather intelligence related to illicit weapons, was fired in 2004.

In his lawsuit, he says his dismissal was punishment for his reports questioning the agency's assumptions on a series of weapons-related matters. Among other things, he charged that he had been the target of retaliation for his refusal to go along with the agency's intelligence conclusions.

1. Now who are you going to believe?
A former CIA officer, or our good old friend, Curveball, who knows how to say exactly what this misadministration wants to hear?

2. The inconvenient facts just keep piling up on this administration.
When does it become a conspiracy to defraud the American people?

3. What's amazing is that they said this suit filed in December was reported
in the news. I don't remember anything posted here on DU about it. Seems to me it would have been a big deal here. Anyone ever remember this story being posted?

Interesting that it comes out from that paper that stovepiped Miller's Chalabi propaganda. This Agent is a whistleblower and yet can't even be protected since no one is allowed to know who they are or see any of the documents.

Bush criminal gang. Like the Mafia...they keep their secrets...even the ones that we who pay their salaries are entitled to know. And that "Do Nothing Senate Intelligence Commission." Where is there responsibility in all this. Pat Roberts is responsible for not letting the truth out to the American people. But, there's no one to hold him accountable, either. What a fix we are in. :-(

4. It's interesting that this guy's report went to the
Counterproliferation Branch of the CIA. That's the same area where Valerie Plame worked. Seems like it would be big stuff. Wonder what happened to the intelligence?
