1. How about...
Ford is the only moderately palatable one in my opinion? And probably only because I don't know much about his administration. Not terribly thrilled he pardoned Nixon but can understand why he did it.

6. Ford knew he was just a caretaker president whose job
was to try and heal the nation until an election that would sweep the Rethug administration out of office.... can you imagine Cheney in a similar situation having such class? I think not.

3. One thing you never hear about is the extent to which Reagan was . . .
ill during his term.

I recall an incident where reporters were asking questions and Nancy was telling him how to answer them. He was repeating Nancy's words.

I suspect that this was due to Alzheimers. I mean, that's a pretty good guess. Isn't it?

So to what extent was he involved in Iran-Contra, which was certainly the most egregious event of his administration? And to what extent were the current pukes involved?

Finally, how does Reagan's cognitive abilities compare to those of GWB's?

4. reagan only trashed our economy and created a trojan horse for the rich...
Bush is slaughtering the constitution, civil rights, the economic livelihood of this country, and creating more enemies at home and abroad than anyone else ever in history. We will NEVER completely recover from this presidency, if at all.
In fact, I'll be surprised if the "presidency" as a concept survives.
Certainly, checks and balances are dead.

11. The seeds for this presidency
and 9/11 were set by Reagan. I think geedubya competes with him on any level and if he had succeeded in destroying social security, Reagan failed at that also, geedubya would be the hands down winner.

I voted for Reagan because he set the gold standard for awfulness that this administration strives for but you gotta go with the original, not the sequel. Only history will truly tell though.

7. I've lived through all of these
presidents ( and Eisenhower), and this was an absolute no-brainer. I can, though, see how one could vote for either Ronald or George I, insofar as they made George II possible. In a way, for the first ( and only) time in my life I feel sorry for Nixon. Until George II, he was the worst, and now he is simply the 2nd worst.

8. w is just carrying the ball
Reagan, with the Goldwater campaign, should get a lot of credit for the current reign of conservative power.

personally, i found reagan wholly intolerable, and it became unforgivable when he kicked off his presidential campaign at the neshoba county fair in ms, site of one of the worst racist events in memory (including, at that time, even reagan's).

9. Having been of age through all of them,
#l. Bush 11
#2. Nixon
#3. Bush 1
#4. Reagan
#5. Ford

I had a hard time with #3 and #4. I actually might call it a draw. Could just be my intense dislike for the whole Bush family. Ford is a very distant 5th.

10. I sympathize with your reasoning, but I might be inclined to
swamp Reagan and Bush. I think the Reagan administration was worse because it laid the groundwork for Bush I and II.

13. If Reagan never existed as a president that idiot wouldn't be in there now
Reagan made the neo-conservative movement legitimate. Bush Jr. was nothing more than a name they could put on the ticket so they could steal the White House and continue with the horrors of reaganomics.

15. Nixon, hands down. Killed millions for "Peace with Honor".
As bad as the rest are, they pale next to the horror perpetrated under Nixon.

Boobya might still drag us into worse but, so far, he's a small timer compared to Dick.

16. Bush II is the worst president in my lifetime
I was born in 1964 and aware of president's from Nixon on. I can't think of a bigger failure than George W. Bush--or a more dangerous president. Sure we know that Nixon was a crook, but my guess is that Bush's crimes are far worse. unfortunately journalism isn't what it once was and so we dont' have anybody really investigating and also the Patriot Act is used as a shield for criminality by this administration.

17. Reagan was worst
He was a blatant racist, who laid the groundwork for all the terrible things that followed him. He attacked nations with even less justification than Bush. He cut back mental health care so much that we have thousands of homeless people on the street. He turned the Taliban and Al Qaida into the force it is today. He did more to damage the environment than any president in history. He did nothing about AIDS, when the crisis in the United States was at its height.
