There will be those among you that find it inappropriate for me to revel in the death of anyone. I couldn't care less about that love your fellow man stuff where this guy is concerned.

Fahd was an evil, corrupt, murderous old bastard that was way overdue. Although it makes little difference politically speaking, as he hasn't been running anything in ten years, it must be gratifying for the masses of Saudis who have lived under his heal for decades.

His connections to the Bush family are infamous and have screwed the Saudis and Americans alike. I have hated him for years and I for one let out a little laugh when I heard.

So, congratulations Saudi Arabia. That is one brutal, oppressive dictator out of your hair. Might I recommend you use this time for a little ousting of the rest of their oil poisoned asses!

Enjoy Hell if such a place exists, you malevolent old buzzard!

Saudi King Fahd dead

Monday, August 1, 2005; Posted: 9:50 a.m. EDT (13:50 GMT)

(CNN) -- Saudi Arabia's King Fahd -- whose reign was marked by unprecedented prosperity, but whose close ties with the United States stirred the passions of Islamic militants -- has died, Saudi Arabia's information minister announced Monday.

His exact age remains uncertain -- believed to be between 82 and 84.

A source told CNN's Nic Robertson that Fahd died Sunday evening. His burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. (8 a.m. EDT) in Riyadh.

The former Crown Prince Abdullah, Fahd's half brother, has been named the new Saudi king and Defense Minister Prince Sultan has replaced Abdullah as crown prince. (Abdullah profile)

1. Does it really matter?
His half-brother who has been running things is just as bad as he was, if not worse.

2. As Noted, Not Politically Speaking. But, Some Saudis Are Feeling Pretty
good about it I'd guess.

Evil tyrants that continue to suck air are an affront to their whole populations until the day they die.

4. You are aware aren't you that Bandar's father is the new Prince?
He was the Saudi Defense minister-you know the one who was being sued by the 911 families for his involvement in 911?

As soon as I saw that Bandar had resigned last week as ambassador
I knew Fahd must either be dead or on his way out.

I find these people even more insidious than the last set.

5. Well Aware. Also Aware That They Have Had All Of The Power For Ten Years.

So in the end the transition is basically a wash. It happened ten years ago.

I was thinking the same thing when Bandar went home as well. I do wonder how long they have had the body on ice...

3. Well, Fahd DID turn the country more fundamentalist
Fahd himself was a womanizer and a gambler - not devout at all. However, Saudi Arabia was moving in a more liberal direction during the '70s and early '80s. But neither as crown prince nor as king did he use the opportunity to open up the political system or diversify the economy. Then, when the religious conservatives threatened him, he greatly expanded funding for fundamentalist groups, Wahhabi preachers, and the "morals police," causing whatever gains that were being made to be erased.

Now, I disagree with the original poster. I have a very difficult time celebrating anyone's death. Frankly, nobody this side of Hitler or Stalin. But I won't mourn him. Anyway, I feel sorry for anyone in his family who is grieving, although he's also been in a near-vegetative state for quite some time, so this is probably a relief.
