Russian Navy Sinks Flagship With it's own Parade Mine!
I'm glad these guys arn't protecting us!
"The flagship of Russia’s Baltic Fleet, the Neukrotimy patrol ship has been hit by a demonstration bomb and partially sunk in the Neva River in the center of St. Petersburg, the Kommersant daily reported on Monday. The incident happened just one day before Sunday’s Navy Day parade that was held in the city."

2. You're right, U.S. forces would never screw up anything like that.

4. Absolutely, Kraklen
It wouldn't be a screw-up, it'd be a gay suicide pact or something.

Just ask the Brass.

5. I always thought a flagship was simply whatever ship had the
admiral on board (and was thus flying his/her flag).

6. It is. But usually they're bigger (at least with us and used to be...
...with them, in the Soviet era).

7. the Baltic is small and mostly pretty shallow water

and the river inlets, i.e. the Neva and most harbors, are too.

It's not the size of their ship that gets me, it's the way it ended in a classical selfdestruction.

And if you know TNT, a 10 kg load for the fake mine would have been plenty impressive for the crowd. Not to mention a lot better for the ship's hull in any case.
