Something I just don't get...
Why is it that most of America is so easily distracted from the things that are really important by television programs, sports, popular music, movies, their jobs, etc?

I have a job. Hell, I have two, if you include the author thing. I watch TV, with several favorite shows I watch regularly. I'm a movie nut, so I watch several a month as well. Okay, so I don't really do sports, except for an occasional baseball game when I'm in the mood.

How come so many other Americans find all this so distracting, anyway? I do all the things everyone else does, plus write, plus post and read here, plus cook dinner 5 nights a week, as well as being active in canine rescue AND semi-active in the local pagan community, not to mention playing AD&D at least a few weeks a month.

What's to be distracted by?

1. I work over 60 hours a week.
And it's physical labor, very tiring.

I'm not alone.

2. People have different interests
They also lead different lives and for whatever reason may be involved in other ways we may not be aware of. Also, with this 'fast culture' of everything, a lot of people just don't take the time because of their busy lives.

I've never believed in the whole 'distraction' argument. I think people grow bored rather quickly and prefer to move on to other things until something else, or even the thing before it, catches their attention.
