Posting again on the annoyance of Fox News in public places --
I posted a while back, asking for advice about what to do about Fox News suddenly replacing sports broadcasts behind the bar, and in view of dining tables, at a favorite restaurant. I took the advice of some, and spoke up. After a couple of times speaking up, the TV now, if not on sports, is on the Weather Channel -- fine with me!

Last night I spoke up for the second time at another restaurant we frequent, where Fox has popped up on the TV screen, and said that if Fox was on the TV next time we came I'd go somewhere else. Emboldened by a glass of wine and a post from my previous thread, I said, "Why do you have that crap on the TV in here?"

It's a small matter in the scheme of things, but I'd encourage all to speak up when Fox is on in a public place, if not already doing so. If a business is dispensing propaganda disguised as news, customers who find this wrong should voice their view, and think about going elsewhere if the channel isn't changed.

2. This was mentioned when I posted before --
I don't have one, but what fun it would be to zap Fox from the table!

3. What was their response?
When you referred to Faux as crap? Just curious. I have not seen it anywhere on TV in public, but will now be on the lookout and will say something if I run into this.

4. I don't think the manager was there, so this was a sweet waitress --
I immediately changed my tone, explaining my objection. She said that she didn't watch Fox either.

9. Airport bars have it on all the time
:grr:

When I've asked them to change it they usually will as long as there aren't many customers there.

6. I order takeout now
to avoid that kind of stuff.

Maybe that's over the top, but considering I'm highly annoyed by FAUX news, it seemed like a good solution to me. :-)

8. I used to use an even easier method
"Y'know, if you keep that station on, you're going to drive most of your sober customers away, and half of your drunk ones!"

The barkeep laughed and changed the station.

This was a few years ago, when Morton Downey Jr. was doing his right-wing rant show. (He eventually drifted to the left, then left TV, then died.) The bar was on South Street in Philly, so it had a mixed crowd, including South Philly toughs, well-educated yuppies who were slumming, fans of live music like me, and "Members of the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Community" -- who were not thrilled with Mr. Downey Jr's ranting.

10. i've been boycotting Macy's on this point for months

cancelled cards, wrote to local mgr and the president.

will never step foot in a Macy's again.

when i posted, other DU'ers mentioned FOX in their Macy's too.

I, like you, will never patronize an establishment that has FOXNews on.

21. yep, upstairs in the women's fitting room areas

two separate screens on the walls blaring FoxNews and a little instruction label on the bottom saying it MUST be on FOX or one other channel ( sports? ) I complained to sales people ( " well they've put so much money in the systems that we have to use them " such bs ) ; i wrote to the manager and got no response. I wrote to national headquarters and got some more bs about its being
'information' and i asked. , " why only fox news, etc etc " No answer.

then, when the social security campaign was going on they had *'s WH produced films on! That's when I went home, cut up my cards and sent them to Macy's headquarters w/ a nasty letter. No reply.

I had access to employee discounts on TOP of sales discounts there, but I refuse to give my hard earned money to such as this.

13. I used to go to a barber shop that played Fox news..
It happened overnight it seems. And this was like 3 years ago, right during the war-drumming. So my barber, a seemingly nice Irish guy, straight from Ireland, starts watching Fox News. The first time, I don't say much about it, as the conversation in the shop didn't get into politics while I was there.

The next time I was in though, it went into politics. I dont remember exactly what someone was commenting on, one of the other customers, but it was typical disinformation being spewed. I spoke out about it and started countering the spin. My barber, who is now in full-on Bushbot mode, starts with the usual "with us or against us" crapola that was very fashionable to speak at the time. I do remember telling him that if that Congress or Justice would look into that asshole Bush even 25% of what they did to Clinton, we would find the most corrupt administration in history.

Well, after that day at the shop, I went back one more time. He was still playing Fox News, and I was pretty disgusted by having to sit and watch it for half an hour.

I just got to see first hand how a steady stream of Fox News can take a person and twist them into the most obedient Bushbot. This Irishman, unsullied by American politics, after a daily diet of Fox News, is now a freeper.

ugh.

14. Fox AND CNN on at a take-out place we frequent.
We don't eat take out often, but the last time I picked up, I asked them why they have conservative right-wing propoganda on. The guy behind the counter said he'd ask the owner when he comes in, but I haven't been back since.

18. It's rampant here in MA
Mostly because it's the only news station that's on Free cable. So, it's either that or soaps.

19. While getting my car serviced...
Of course the car dealership is the biggest in this city and is owned an operated by repukes I'm sure.

Anyway, I was in the waiting area by myself and Faux was on the tee-vee. I couldn't find a remote control anywhere, so I just walked up and turned the whole unit off.

I'd rather sit in bored silence than be subjected to that crap.

(yes, at Wally-world, but other places too!).

Get one which scans for the TV brand . . .
