Only in America! Why do so many have such myopic views?
Quote from local newspaper:
"Thank you so much for the update. I am so happy she is getting to fulfill her dreams and that so many readers helped her do it! That’s one thing that countries like Iraq will never understand — how Americans rally around to help each other!! God bless the USA1"

So, no other country helps others? Can anyone come up with examples from other countries? The only reason the community had to pitch in was to pay for medical bills left by her parents who died and to help her go to a university.

What about the countries who provide free medical care and education for ALL of their citizens? And why do they think Iraqis have not rallied? Enduring war after war, I'm sure the communities have to do all they can to take care of families. What evidence does this person have to the contrary?

Why do so many believe we are the greatest, best country in the world? Although I like many aspects of living here, it's not the only way and certainly not the best way.

It's simly an accident of birth that we are U.S. citizens anyway. Would I be less of a person if I was born elsewhere? I just don't get it.

1. That kind of thing really pisses me OFF!
Other people love their countries too. Just as much as we love ours.

Other people rally around their friends and neighbors when tragedy strikes.

 Self-righteous Americans really get under my skin.

2. Either they've never left the country...
or they've never bothered to find out what life is like in other countries.

This is my biggest problem with Americans. Ethnocentric, jingoistic, blindly patriotic.

3. I have found a much greater sense of community in other places
and in much of america, people don't even take the time to socialize with their neighbors anymore

4. Why do I not think this person rallies around the poor..
..in her communitiy?

I wonder if she praises when the poverty level child finally gets a needed major medical test, thanks to medicaid. Medicaid means that we've all rallied around that child to get him his healthcare.

I wonder if she celebrates that kind of Can-Do American Spirit?

6. "patriotism" is the ultimate ego trip.
What is really often being said is, "this country is great because I was born here".

"Murka is the GREATEST country in the world!" Been a constant theme ever since the Industrial Revolution.

Remember this?

10. Americans ARE violent people....
simple as that. That is why religion takes center stage in the US. We kill each other, we thrive on violence, we thrive in personal character destruction, we envy each other for monetary reasons, we take other person's spouse and destroy families. We kill and rape the most innocent; the nation's children.

We are intoxicated with ego, arrogance, false power, false teachings of God, and white skin. I don't know of any American who follows the Ten Commandments, including me.

14. it's a pathetic cliche

Every time a police force or such in Peoria or Olathe screws up and reveals its incompetence, long known to their community, their boss has to go before the TV cameras and proclaim that the force is the "the greatest department in the world" and such tripe.

Whenever I see a mayor or fire chief or police chief say that, I know he's dealing with a brutally demoralized and exposed bunch of chumps and time servers he has to keep from complete breakdown...and knows it.

Imho it's a social code that says "We have jobs that suck, are not exactly the elite, and live in an armpit of the country and can't get out of it. But we can't afford to look at the reality too closely for too long, we have to all step back from it and get back to those imaginary things that help us survive our situation mentally, which have always been confabulations."

15. Say like the countries where the elderly are treated with
respect for their wisdom and where they play a significant role in the rearing of their grandchildren, instead of being shipped off to a nursing home to be ignored? That kinda of "helping each other"? Yep! "God bless the USA" :puke:

16. Ignorant and proud of it.
I've heard folk say 'murika is the only free country in the world.

Others have asked me if they had television and radio in Europe. Eejits who were making more money than me. And they wondered why I was so keen to live over there.

20. no one rallied round to help me when i was ill
no evidence whatsoever that america rallies around the sick unless they are somehow cute or popular

a fund-raising here springs to mind, it's all about popularity of the person

in my town, a kid gets donations into her medical donation account, but my neighbor in his 30s is left to die and so he did

there is no rallying around, it's all favoritism all the time, the american idol society
