Several with ties to fort linked to prison abuse (torture at Huachuca)

The actions of several current and former Fort Huachuca personnel have been called into question in prisoner-abuse probes at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere. Among the cases:

A sergeant from Fort Huachuca, identified only as Sgt. 1st Class Walters, "contributed to the abusive environment" at Abu Ghraib after he was sent there in October 2003 to help train interrogators, an Army investigation found.

Capt. Carolyn Wood, until recently the personnel officer for Fort Huachuca's 304th Military Intelligence Battalion, oversaw two sets of abusive interrogators - at Abu Ghraib and before that, at a military jail in Bagram, Afghanistan.

Two unidentified soldiers with ties to Fort Huachuca were among 28 implicated earlier this year in the beating deaths of two prisoners in Afghanistan in 2002. The victims were found dangling from chains in their cells, one victim's legs so battered from repeated blows that a coroner said it looked as if he'd been run over by a bus.
