First CNN's Blitzer won't give the Toronto EMS crew it's due....
....now cue-pee doll Heidi Collins was talking about the crash with another female reporter sitting beside her (name escapes me) and said something like "You really have to give a lot of credit to the plane's crewmembers for the safe evacuation".....

I am Canadian. I posted a week ago or so about how the American media covers Canada in one of two ways....either to talk about how quaint we are, how we like hockey so much, how cold it is, how cute Anne of Green Gables is, etc....or to put us down in one way or another....our universal health care and it's long line ups, our government's legalizing gay marriage, our more liberal pot laws etc....but also, they like to simply be petty. The ground emergency services crews were on the scene in literally less than a minute. They are on standby at Pearson airport 24/7, and have even been on heightened alert lately over terrorism fears. Yes the Air France flight crew gets top marks for helping evacuate the plane, they did an absolutely brilliant job. But so do the EMS crews. I know how completely paranoid, and sucky baby this sounds to point this stuff out, but so help me God it is true. This is always the way it is. And as I write this....Paula (my-jaw-is-wired-shut) Zahn just said to Heidi..."today was a good lesson in listening to your flight attendants". Yes bitches, we get it.

Now flame the hell away!!!

:grr:

1. I won't flame but flight attendants rarely get credit for anything.
They were the first attacked on 9/11 and were the first to inform the world what was happening. Of course the EMS were incredible but their praise should be in addition to kudos for the heroic Air France flight attendant crew :)

4. I totally agree....9/11 proved how awesome and underappreciated..
...flight attendants are. Today they came through again. And now, Paula is interviewing the Toronto EMS chief and talking about how incredible they were in arriving on scene in less than a minute. Maybe she heard my silent screaming on DU??? Anyway...Paula, you made me look bad just now.....so, I guess the score is:

CNN Sucks Ass: 6 million.

I Suck Ass: 1. :yoiks:

2. Don't fret
Someone put something in our water down here. How else to explain our ahole press and government. One of my favorite movies is Canadian Bacon. It typifies in a way our sloppy land and aggressive politics in comparison to yours. Like I said...ignore the U.S. from 2000 through 2008 with Chimpy the coward at the helm.

3. Canada Rocks. If the Crash were here, all 241 people would be dead.
Bush's 2 dollar an hour terror team would have to have each EMS worker pass threw a metal detector before approaching the burning aircraft.

5. Got even better one to tell you. Paul Taibbi tonight on the first
report on the NBC Nightly News said that the co-pilot of the Air France flight was one of the people who walked away from the crash scene in Toronto this afternoon. According to Mr. Taibbi's report, the co-pilot walked to the 401 and hitchiked to the hospital.

I couldn't believe when I heard this moron reporter from NBC saying this. I seriously doubt that any of the flight crew walked anywhere near the 401. I am quite sure that they made absolutely certain all the passengers were off the plane before they even looked for any help for their injuries.

I also seriously doubt that the emergency personnel from the Toronto airport even let anyone from that flight walk to the 401.

Do the morons in the corporate media honestly think that all Americans are stupid freepers?

10. Passengers and at least one flight attendant were found on the 401
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 07:28 PM by JohnyCanuck
I saw reports on the news of passengers and at least one flight attendant (who appeared to be dazed and/or in shock) making their way out of the ravine and onto the 401 highway and flagging down cars for help.

Edited to add: That was on a Canadian channel, either CBC or CTV can't remember which.

13. "Goin' my way buddy"???
....can you imagine that? LOL!!

I have a tough time buying the hitchhike story....but there were in fact reports of people wandering on to the 401 highway...which is literally a hundred yards or so away from the crash scene. If they did do this...they would have had to hop a fence which would have had barbed wire on it...so....

23. I was wondering about the fence.

However, reports were that the aircraft crashed through the fence at the end of the runway so they might have been outside the fenced off area of the airport itself, and as far as I know there is no fence preventing access from the ravine onto the 401 (at least I've never noticed one in my travels along that section of the 401).

the AF flight attendants were first rate professionals. You should be proud.

8. I'm sorry, most people credit the crew first in this.
They are usually the ones right there to get everyone out in a split second. I don't think they meant any diss to the EMS crews.. It's just a natural reaction to think of those on the plane who helped, first. I don't see it as a slight this time.

9. I'll add a complaint
In spite of the extensive use of the robot arm during this difficult time with the space shuttle, I have yet to hear anyone call it the Canada arm, or the Canadian made robotic arm.

No wonder people think we live in igloos, and drive dogsleds.

14. in a crash it takes many for there to be survivors...and lots of luck..
it takes passengers who listen to commands..it takes a flight crew who is professional and alert..it takes a miracle first off..and it takes all the ground personal..

but if i may say something here..it takes passengers who act responsibly ,who follow crew instructions on take off and landing..it takes cooperation by passengers to follow rules..no matter how silly they may seem to you at the time..those rules have been provided you because of other accidents, and are proven to save lives..and almost all survival of a crash.. takes people paying attention to the flight crew directions at the beginning of the flight and passengers reading the emergency cards and directions before landing..!! this is a proven fact...

and the thanks for lives saved.... is from "everyone" who has worked hard to save each and every life...on each and every flight..by proceedures and following proceedures and investigations of crashes prior..and no speculation but facts...

and when you look at your flight crew as waiters and waitresses....think first that they are your lifeline!
when you are rude and ignorant , or think you are the one person who doesn't have to follow the rules..it could be your life thats lost!

the professional, reassuring, and smart-as-a-whip flight attendants always made it bearable for me.

Thank you.

Great work by the flight attendents, pilots, and ground crew!

I don't know how the passengers behaved, but the professionals all did their jobs beautifully.

A major thank you!

Same with Fox. They weren't even running the story when I switched and checked earlier in the day. Good news is no news apparently....
