About machines/humidity....isn't there something called air conditioning?

I would think the machines would be operated indoors, which should have A/C, especially since they would be in nice government buildings. Thus, I don't buy the humidity messing up the machines excuse. I don't doubt that Schmidt truly won the election given how far right the 2nd District is (it is the most heavily Republican district in Ohio; there are lots of wealthy suburban elites in southern Warren, western Clermont, and eastern Hamilton Counties), but I want some explanations to these strange excuses. If we don't demand honest explanations, then it will only continue to embolden Republicans to interfere with the elections process.

8. Possible in southern Ohio since it was mild that day

Here in NE Ohio, it was mild, rainy, and wet all day on November 2nd. Given that Cincinnati is generally a bit warmer then here in Akron, it is possible that humidity could be a factor on the machines (although not nearly as likely as this time of year), but again, as I stated in another post, the BOE's should know to operate the machines in a temperature controlled setting regardless of what time of year it is. So, in conclusion, the humidity excuse still doesn't pass the smell test with me.

4. I teach in a non air conditioned school

and every summer, we are told to store our computers in an air conditioned area of the school. The district thinks the heat and humidity will damage the machines. I have heard computer experts say this is crap, though, FWIW.

7. Well, too much heat can cause the machines to break down

A computer engineering friend told me that when he worked in a computer lab in college, they kept the air conditioning on in the lab even during the winter because so much heat is generated from the machines. I assume the humidity would further complicate it given the moisture involved.

So, in regards to the BOE's, they should know that the machines should be operated in a temperature controlled setting. I highly doubt they do these machine counts outside.

9. Our computer lab is air conditioned year round

And as for the heat, I know that not all of our computers were stored in the lab last summer. And they were fine even after being stored in a closet.

I would suspect that the BOE's are in an airconditioned environment, however.
