Unbelievable - woman cheats death and complains.
What is this dim bulb going to complain about next...her missing luggage? They should have left this one on the plane. :eyes:

Passenger criticizes flight attendants

Hours after the crash and rescues, at least one passenger was less than complimentary about the work of some of the flight attendants during the accident.

Gwen Dunlop, a Toronto resident who was on the flight returning from vacation in France, said when the plane first touched down the passengers believed they had landed safely and clapped with relief.

“Only seconds later, it started really moving and obviously it wasn’t OK,” said Dunlop. “At some point the wing was off. The oxygen masks never came down; the plane was filling up with smoke.”

“One of the hostesses said, ‘You can calm down, it’s OK,’ and yet the plane was on fire and smoke was pouring in,” Dunlop told The AP. “I don’t like to criticize, but the staff did not seem helpful or prepared.”

Dunlop said some passengers went down emergency chutes, while others jumped out on their own. “We were all trying to go up a hill; it was all mud and we lost our shoes. We were just scrambling, people with children.”

1. Someone needs to remind her
If they didn't do their job superbly...she wouldn't be complaining.
Someone would be making funeral arrangements.
Kudos to the flight staff for a job well done!

I'd be quite happy to be alive, thank you very much.

until you find out that someone screwed up and could cost people their lives. Perhaps this accident was avoidable. Hard to say since we know so little.

edited for clarity

3. That IS unbelievable
What does she want, the flight attendants should shriek and tell people to panic? Or perhaps blot the hill with paper towels before sending passengers up to the highway?

I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to an irrational stress reaction.

12. Yeah, and maybe
Offer some of those little booties to cover their shoes as they're pushing them down the chute, so they don't get mud on their Manolo's running away from the burning wreckage.

What kind of cheap-o service is this airline providing, anyway?

5. The plane's wing tears off and the hostess says....
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 11:35 PM by cynatnite
You can calm down?????

Sorry, but that just doesn't strike me as helpful at all.

Looking at it from both perspectives, the woman may have been panicking to such a degree they tried to say something, but with smoke and flames in an airplane I'm not sure how many people were acting calm in the face of an emergency.

It's so hard to say what it would have been like inside and I hope to never find out.

I just want to know one thing...were they serving drinks during this crisis?

on edit: We still don't the full story. This is vague to me and when a full investigtion is completed, we'll know more if this woman was right or wrong in her assessment.

10. She is wrong
The flight attendants (they're not hostesses, it's an airplane flight, not a cocktail party) have no impact on mechanical failure, weather related conditions, or the actions of the Captain and First Officer. They have zero culpability, no matter what the cause of this accident. But they were entirely responsible for getting the emergency doors open, the chutes deployed, and 300 terrified people off a burning plane within 90 seconds. She's complaining about the very people who saved her from being toast.

17. Hard to say since we weren't on the airplane...
We have no idea whether this woman or the flight attendants, stewardesses or whatever you want to call them behaved appropriately.

As I said in my post, there's no way of knowing until the matter has been investigated.

23. Behaved appropriately?
They saved her worthless ass from being burned alive! She didn't like what the way they responded to her question? Screw her! She's alive because of their actions and calm demeanor. The issue of what caused the crash is completely separate from how the flight attendants responded to the emergency. What part of that don't you understand? :eyes:

37. Rather than sink down to trade insults with you...
I will remind you that this is a news article. It doesn't tell enough of the story to give an indication of what was going on inside the aircraft at that particular time.

I have not attacked the stewardesses or anyone else. I have also mentioned that we do not know how this woman who complained reacted in the crisis.

Keep in mind, take these things with a grain of salt...especially when there is so little information in regards to the entire incident.

I choose not to jump to conclusions based on the perspective of ONE person when there were over a hundred on this flight. Perhaps if two or more were to say the same thing this woman was, then maybe I will consider it differently.

And you will find I did NOT see the need to make a personal attack on you to make a point. :eyes:

20. Sounds like she did exactly the right thing
That hostess that is.

THe idea is to get everyone off the plane quickly and calmly. Encouging panic will just get everyone killed.

21. The story is vague
It describes very little on the inside of the plane so we have no idea whether the stewardess acted appropriately or if this woman complaining was panicked or not.

11. What should she have said
Stampede!! Your gonna die? The flight attendants job is to keep people calm during an emergency.

On an Oprah show, years ago, the disaster expert said some ridiculous amount of passengers die from panic. He was saying that if the passengers had remained calm, followed instruction and evacuated properly there would be a lot more plane crash survivors.

19. They should have put out rugs over the mud
How dare they crash in the mud!

I find it funny she complains about the oxygen masks not deploying.

They were on GROUND! What did she want? TO have a nice oxygen supply while she sits in her seat to burn alive?

(fyi, the oxygen masks are for at altitude where there is no breathable air. On the ground they would just fuel the fire, and encourage folks to sit there and burn alive, rather than getting the hell out of the plane.)

Well, I guess she could have stayed out of the rain by, I don't know . . . STAYING ON THE BURNING PLANE!

Okay, now . . . whatever.

I've worked in retail, restaurants, customer service, public service, sales, marketing, cold calls, bill collections all of my life.

I have first-hand knowledge of the "terminally unsatisfied customer". Trust me. I've DEALT with them on a daily, nay, hourly basis throughout my working career.

This woman takes the cake.

I shall never, ever complain of a customer who just can't be satisfied EVER again.

Um, Gwen, honey, dear....you DO realize that altho you lost your shoes, and were forced to suffer the humiliation of walking shoeless through mud and rain, you do realize that YOU ARE ALIVE AND COULD HAVE VERY MUCH BEEN DEAD HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THOSE "INCOMPETENT" FLIGHT ATTENDANTS WHO GOT YOUR STUPID ASS OUT OF YOUR OXYGEN-DEPRIVED SEAT AND OUT OF THE BURNING FUCKING PLANE???????????

Dudes & dudettes--I'm the type of person that gets excited when I find $5 in a winter coat, okay. I think that had I just avoided nearly unavoidable death, I'd be a little less quick to criticize about my fucking shoes, mmkay?

Me thinks Gwen needs to gain some perspective of things

what a fucking dumbass

32. I hate to say that Torontonians are picky, but ...
As someone from Hamilton (TO's arch rival -- think Chicago vs. New York) -- I admit that I laughed when I saw where she was from!

But, since I don't want to diss the >2 million of my fellow Canadians who live in the GTA, I am going to point out the passengers who managed to make it over the the 401 did get picked up by helpful drivers.

34. I'll play devil's advocate
Maybe what she's trying to say is that if it wasn't for the passengers themselves, none of them would not be alive, because the flight attendants didn't spring into action. Maybe it was this whole non-chalant attitude of the crew including the pilots which led to the plane crashing in the first place.
