DeWine's July poll numbers are 37/47 favorable/unfavorable. So he's definitely in a down turn. But it's never a good idea, historically speaking, to run a loser right after he lost.

4. Not really an apt comparison

And I'm sure you're aware of that. There are exceptions to every rule, after all. And Reagan is one. After all, even though he "lost" the primary (not, as in this case, the general), he still forced Ford to change VP candidates and rewrote the agenda of the national convention in 1976. The only reason he "lost" as gracefully as he did is because the GOP told him to step down and that he'd get his chance in 1980.
In any case, we're arguing over nothing here anyway. Both of us are for a Hackett run for the Ohio Senate. You may be a bit more convinced than I am, but I'd still love to see the race.

3. To use an argument from another thread

Double digit swings in one area of the state. All we need is a 2.2 swing in the Entire state to get our candidate in the WH."

If Hackett could swing the % that much in the most red district in the state, he should cruise to a victory statewide. The loss would hurt him some, but unless the Dems put up a viable contender, Hackett should be the choice.

7. I agree he's in a bad way, but I don't think that's why...

In fact, looking like a moderate will only help him in the general election. The problem with DeWine's moderate credentials will probably come up in the primary, if a more-conservative candidate picks up steam. Of course, that's good for us. If a moderate Dem. like, for example, Hackett runs against a rightwing crazy, Ohio's in the bag.

8. Abso-freakin-yes!!

I think Hackett has a very good chance if he ran for Senate. There has been a big change in the way people are thinking politically in the state of Ohio. Especially now since this once blue collar state doesn't have a blue collar anymore...let alone much of a white collar either. The numbers that Hackett got in the S.E. corner of the state are unheard for that part of the state. And to me, a life long Ohio-an, that tells a lot.

9. As I said in a thread last night. I'd travel to Ohio to support it.

He would definetely turn that state blue. He is a spotless candidate, are there any others that are spotless? Don't believe so.

Hackett for senator!.... sounds right to me.
