I was watching an A&E show this afternoon on polygamy in the fundamentalists sects of the Church of Latter Day Saints and the narrator kept referring to the fact that most government officials turn a blind eye to polygamy, which seems absolutely horrible not to mention illegal. Scott Howell, the minority leader in the Utah State Senate, was interviewed and did a very nice fence straddling on the issue. I just looked him up and found out that he was Hatch's 2000 Democratic opponent, who obviously lost. But I was wondering where Hatch stands on gay marriage and the Federal Marriage Amendment. It was hard to sift through what he says to figure out where he really stands. Maybe someone here knows better than me? The reason I was wondering is because it seems that you can't be for marriage being ONLY between "one man and one woman" (in the words of the great Ricky Santorum) and turn a blind eye to polygamy. Santorum ought to get on this as the next pet cause. But, I digress. I remember reading, maybe here, that Hatch had made some weird statement on polygamy but I can't remember what. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Sorry to ramble so much!
