ESPN; Congress to investigate Palmiero over steroids
ESPN reports tonight that Congress will investigate whether Rafael Palmeiro purjured himself while testifying before Congress on steroids. As you know, Palmerio went before Congress and said that he never had taken, or will take steroids. Palmerio was suspended 10 games for taking steroids. Palmerio will also turn over all documents pertaining to his testimony. Looks like old Raffy is in a heap of trouble if he perjured himself.

1. I am usually against calling any new news story a "distraction"
But this new investigation is without doubt a manufactured distraction.

3. Well steroids are a serious problem, and perjury is a serious crime
We need to make a lesson of this and, oh fuck it :puke:

4. He voluntarily turned over all documents to Congress
and the date of the drug test was after his testimony.

Raffy has no legal worries.

However, he has kissed his shaky HOF credentials goodbye.

6. I wouldn't be too sure of that
If Raffy had no legal worries, I don't think Congress would be calling. He rose his right hand and under oath, and said he NEVER took steroids. If Jose Canseco is right, Raffy has been doing steroids since 1998. He might be in serious trouble

13. But the only proof that could support a perjury charge is a drug test
that was taken AFTER his testimony that "he had NEVER (as in the past)taken steroids".

14. Actually, he may still be in trouble
There was no real testing prior to the testimony. And apparently in the only test since then, he failed.

I would find it hard to believe that he never took steroids until he went on national tv and angrily claimed that he didn't.

Did he go home that night and say, "Now, I can juice up all I want!!!"

It's weird.

I admit that on the list of 1000 problems in this country, it is #925.
But, frankly, what the hell else is Tom Davis going to do with his life? Congressmen need these little distractions or else they write new energy bills.

7. I'm still appalled by the failure of Congress to address
the George Brett pine tar incident back in the 80's. It's good to see that these brave souls are steering the ship of state in the right direction again.

10. why the hell won't they investigate the lies the president told . . .
that resulted in our invading a foreign nation and the death of over 1800 Americans and countless Iraqis? . . . as far as I know, no one has died because Palmiero took steroids . . .

12. What a crock!
Who really cares anyway? If these primadonnas want brain tumors and shriveled privates, LET 'em have 'em.

If kids are so stupid that they emulate these freaks, the PARENTS need to step in and start getting coaches fired who promote the "bulking up" of teen players..

Congress really has more pressing issues than whether or not a bunch of overpaid athletes are cheating with steroids..
