Rottweiler Mauls Calif. Toddler to Death

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - A Rottweiler ripped a 16-month-old girl out of her mother's arms, dragged her for several feet and mauled her to death in an apparent unprovoked attack, police said.

Cassandra Garcia died at a hospital Tuesday evening following the attack by her grandparents' 150-pound male dog, named Enano, police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The toddler was being held as her mother, Blanca Garcia, bent down and gave the dog a bowl of water. The dog attacked the girl, snatched her and dragged her several feet down a driveway.

Garcia's mother was able to grab her child back and sought refuge in a vehicle where she made a ``hysterical 911 call,'' Lorenz said. The 28-year-old mother had bites to her arm and upper body but ``suffered no major injuries,'' he added.

1. How tragic and horrible.
It seems that there are many families and individuals who know very little about canine behavior and who own dog breeds that they shouldn't. Just my opinion.

3. I have a neighbor that has one of those
and it bit her baby on the face recently. She still has it. I told her she should get rid of it ASAP. She won't do it. I wonder if her baby will be attacked again? If it is, whose fault would it be exactly? The mother or the dog?

4. That dog should be put down if it bit her baby.

The dog owners have not properly trained the dog and thus it feels that it is dominant over them. I had a friend who "spoiled" a puppy who turned out to be a very large and aggressive adult dog. The dog bit her in the face when she tried to make it get off her bed. She had it put down immediately. She had no business owning such an animal when she didn't know how to train it or even realize that it was an inappropriate breed for her. She realizes this now and owns a lovely rescued collie.

9. thanks
She was trying to pawn the dog off on ME and I told her NO WAY! I have an old dog that has cancer but he is still going. I hope he lives a long time as there is not a viscious bone in his body.

I hope she gets rid of that dog. She lives close-by to where I live and I don't like having these types of animals around. Any dog that would bit a baby in the face is totally frightening to me. :scared:
