Iran had a public execution of two teenaged gay boys...Condi has no commen
Iran recently had a public execution of two teenaged gay boys, aged 17 and 18. They were hung to death. Condoleeza Rice was asked to condemn this execution but has made no public statement so far.

SECRETARY RICE URGED TO CONDEMN EXECUTION OF GAY IRANIAN TEENS

‘Atrocities committed by foreign governments against all people must be condemned swiftly and forcefully by the world’s greatest democracy,’ said HRC President Joe Solmonese.

WASHINGTON— The Human Rights Campaign sent a letter today to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to condemn the recent execution of two gay teens in Iran as well as other horrific human rights abuses against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people across the globe. The text of the letter follows:

6. Probably why they haven't invaded yet...
"Because the Iranians are a fundamentally good people"...pun intended.

"Any country where they can hang gays and get away with it can't be all bad..."

5. it burns me up
human adults - murdering children.

My kneejerk reaction is that I utterly hate religion in all its forms, and especially the provincial application of fundamentalist religious "law", but I also realize that these people would have hanged or otherwise destroyed those kids whether or not the Koran existed and whether or not there were laws to protect them. This has been going on for as long as there have been people to pull the rope.

I just can't imagine in a small community what kind of delusion and insanity would make you hang your children. Or rather, I can indeed imagine, but I won't go there on this forum.

7. Condi's probably banking on this
bit of murkiness injected into the case to skate out from commenting.

8. Weren't they executed for raping a young boy?
Every time somebody rapes a kid there's no shortage of people crying for the rapist to be summarily executed in public.

I wonder how they feel now that somebody's gone and done it.

9. No they were just charged with "criminal homosexuality"
If you read the link it is really scary. Here's a paragraph:
Consensual gay sex in any form is punishable by death in the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the website Age of Consent, which monitors such laws around the world, in Iran "Homosexuality is illegal, those charged with love-making are given a choice of four death styles: being hanged, stoned, halved by a sword, or dropped from the highest perch. According to Article 152, if two men not related by blood are discovered naked under one cover without good reason, both will be punished at a judge's discretion. Gay teens (Article 144) are also punished at a judge's discretion. Rubbing one's penis between the thighs without penetration (tafheed) shall be punished by 100 lashes for each offender. This act, known to the English-speaking world as 'frottage,' is punishable by death if the 'offender' is a non-Muslim. If frottage is thrice repeated and penalty-lashes have failed to stop such repetitions, upon the fourth 'offense' both men will be put to death. According to Article 156, a person who repents and confesses his gay behavior prior to his identification by four witnesses, may be pardoned. Even kissing 'with lust' (Article 155) is forbidden. This bizarre law works to eliminate old Persian male-bonding customs, including common kissing and holding hands in public." And Outrage, in its release about the gay teens' execution, noted that, "according to Iranian human rights campaigners, over 4000 lesbians and gay men have been executed since the Ayatollahs seized power in 1979. Last August, a 16-year-old girl , was hanged for 'acts incompatible with chastity,' ."

I've seen videos of public executions for raping girls. They let the father do the shooting.

14. No. They were executed for being gay.
Remarkable shortage of "witnesses", including the victim.

Having worked in that part of the world, I have no delusions whatsoever about the reason for their murder. It's funny that the orphanages there don't hesitate for one moment to use children for prostitution, institutionalized begging (by lopping off an arm or leg or putting out an eye) but the mere accusation of "gay rape" results in the torture and death of two juveniles.

It is much more likely that their kin found them to be a shame upon the family by their very existence and agreed that this would redeem their honor. If they had already been promised in marriage their "kin" would be their future 'in-laws' as well, since financial arrangements and some form of dowering may have already taken place.

As per the above post above.

What exactly was the part of the world did you worked in and what did you do?

17. and again, I disagree
So, did the "rape" occur? Until further independent confirmation is forthcoming, we can only surmise.

Details of the story raise significant warning flags in my experience. HRW must address the explanation (notice I did not say evidence) given to it on its face or face losing credibility in other matters.

I have no such restrictions. Without sounding too spooky (I'm not), your other questions can't be answered in a public forum.

21. Iran has a history of trumping of charges, these were added on later
after their initial arrest.

no doubt these young boys were killed in cold blood, for no justifiable reason.

it's murder, it's despicable, and their pictures will haunt me for some time to come.

23. wanna hear something really nutty?
Iran allows sex change operations, in fact, it's relatively common there. The thinking being that it's not homosexuality if a woman is trapped in man's body and vice-versa. That's not true homosexuality.
