Oh, boo hoo your violence using group is gone.

Seems to me real "warriors" wouldn't disband because the police intimidated them.

June 29, 2005

Even though it happened in Vancouver, and their officers were on the scene, Vancouver City Police officials refuse to comment on a dramatic incident Monday afternoon, in which a member of the West Coast Warriors Society was injured.

David Dennis and another WCWS member James Ward, and their driver were stopped by police with guns drawn, as they blocked both ends of the Burrard Street Bridge.

They were kept in custody for an hour or so, before being released without charges being laid against them.

Police did find outdoor equipment and hunting rifles in the vehicle but they were licensed. Bows and arrows were also found in the car.

2. Yeah I'm with you
How dare aborigional people stand up for their rights? Don't those indians know that we took this land from them and they are royally screwed at this point.

5. Uh, no, you're on the other side
The OP is being sarcastic, is cheering the police state, AND is mischaracterizing this group as violent to boot.

10. I'm saying it's a larger issue than that
And at any rate, I'm not going to take the media's word when it comes to an Indian protest group.

11. You can trust the CBC on aboriginal rights
Plus, anyone who drives around with guns calling themselves warriors is a danger to society.

3. Looks like they're supporting aboriginal rights.
You'd rather they go out in a hail of gunfire exchanged with the police?

I don't get it.

The use of Violence is never justified.

12. Yet you mock them for not using violence.
I don't know anything about these guys but they sound a bit like the Black Panthers.

More power to them if they are.

13. I'm just mocking in general
Cause anyone who would use violence deserves any mocking whatsoever. They are not like the BP. No offence intended, but if you knew anything about BC's aboriginal groups you wouldn't think that. It is essentially a bunch of reactionists with guns. They even shot at police officers during a roadblock, hitting one four times. Ain't anything honourable or noble about that. Especially at a time when the BC government was working on giving them self rule.

15. Just the history
ANd current happenings. Not your fault, you don't live here.

People automatically assume anyone with a gun who is a minority is out for a just cause. That's not always the case.

16. Hey you know what that rminds me of
Northern Agitators going down into the South to like fight for Civil Rights. You remember that Argument right? Northerners didn't understand southern issues and so should just butt out.

NOt saying there are any parallels, just something that sprang to my mind.

17. Maybe so, however
You're comparing a situation that EVERYONE knew about for years and was in the forefront of US media to something that was posted on a website 30 minutes ago.

Out of curiosity, how many here can name the capital of BC without googling it?

20. Where did you live?
I'm talking about the fact they don't need violent groups to achieve their goals. That's one thing you may be missing. THe BC government has been open and receptive to aboriginal issues.

22. Abbotsford.
Essentially, what you're saying that the aborigines are well off. Obviously these people disagree. Like I said, this is reminding me of the Panthers. "Oh, those people are fine. They don't need guns."

People automatically assume anyone with a gun who is a minority is just a thug. That's not always the case.

23. ANyone in a van full of guns is up to no good
If they were anything other than natives this board would be freaking out. I'm not saying natives are well off, I'm saying they don't live under a regime in which they need guns to defend themselves
