Federal Leak Case Has Formidable Grand Jury -- It’s Mainly Black Women

In the new issue of Time magazine, reporter Matthew Cooper writes that he testified before a federal grand jury last week -- a panel that was predominantly black and overwhelmingly female.

"Grand juries are in the business of handing out indictments, and their docility is infamous," Cooper writes. "A grand jury, the old maxim goes, will indict a ham sandwich if a prosecutor asks it of them.

"But I didn't get that sense from this group of grand jurors. They somewhat reflected the demographics of the District of Columbia," he wrote. "The majority were African-American and were disproportionately women. ... These grand jurors did not seem the types to passively indict a ham sandwich. I would say one-third of my 2-1/2 hours of testimony was spent answering their questions, not the prosecutor's."

The essence of which said that these were straightforward, thoughtful, intelligent women who asked lots of good questions and who were NOT about to "indict a ham sandwich."

I think that one legitimate way of interpreting that is that they are being very reasonable and down-to-earth (i.e. straightforward) about the matter.

8. I am not big on Lying

I teach my daughter, whatever you do, don't lie to me. I can handle anything but that. So yes, I guess I am one of those women.

I feel when it comes to lying I tend to judge the act of lying harshly even if there are validating reasons behind it. I can take the truth, even if it's not pretty, so don't lie to me. It's belittling to me as a person. I wonder if this is a reaction some women have due to being "sheltered" for our own "good" and thus treated as less than equals for many generations?

If you want to earn my wrath, just lie to my face. You will regret it when I find out, of that you can be sure.

13. What He Means Is

that he thinks these women are naive and stupid and will not understand the implications of what the architects of this outing of Plame did. He thinks that the jury will let them get away with it.

However, I believe that he is seriously underestimating them, because I think that it is members of oppressed groups that have the best judgement becuase they have seen and experienced what people can do and black women are a doubly oppressed group.
