Poll question: where you live, do you pay for gas first or do you fill up 1st?
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 02:49 PM by LSK
As per discussion here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4260478&mesg_id=4260478

On edit: This does not include where you pay at the pump with your credit cards. This means going into the gas station and giving the cashier money.

1. Pay? What is this pay you speak of?
I just whip out the old Oklahoma Credit Card and I'm good to go.

6. That's funny
I haven't heard Oklahoma credit card since I left Maine. I wonder how many people know it's a siphon hose.

5. Europeans are trusting of the customer to fill up and pay after
to a degree. I think there are probably video cameras watching the scene as well, though I have witnessed at least one driver taking off without paying, much to the consternation of the clerk.

8. It depends on the gas station and time of day. After 10pm most of
them seem to switch to pay first.

WaWa, Luk Oil are all let you fill up first.

9. This is result of a discussion on Randi Rhodes
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 02:44 PM by melissinha
I think people are getting confused about this poll.

A caller was upset that he had to pay gas AFTER he filled up at Andrews AirForce Base. Apparently they have always allowed servicemen to pump forst until just recently. The caller thougt this was disrespectful. Then Randi responded that everyone has to pay first, basically saying "What's your point" and a whole discussion ensued.... and then a discussion in another thread that caused this poll.

11. It depends on the type of 'pay at pump'...
Some you have to prepay and deduct from debit card, some you swipe the CC and then at the end the charge goes thru...

Why is this important? :)

14. I do both
At Costco, I use a Costco Cash Card, which is a debit card.

At any other station I use my credit card.

But in both instances, you have to swipe first.

I haven't been to a station in ages where you fill up, then pay.

13. Pay at the pump
If a station doesn't have pay at the pump, I go somewhere else.

New program from QuikTrip targets 'drive-offs' at gas stations
David Dinell

After losing $1 million during a 12-month period from customers who did not pay for gasoline at Wichita-area QuikTrip stores, company officials are implementing a new payment system March 11.

The system, called PumpStart, allows customers to fill up their vehicles after providing the company with their driver's license, which is then copied into the company's computer system.

Customers are then issued a special card that they can use to pump their gas. After that, they then can go into the store and pay.

If they drive off without paying, the card is canceled and their name and address are turned over to police.
