Tight security in place for president's visit

GRAPEVINE - Don't plan on watching President Bush's helicopter land before he speaks today at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center on Lake Grapevine.

Residents of the Montelena, Wild Wood Creek and Cobblestone apartments received fliers warning them to stay off patios and away from windows facing the landing site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"You wouldn't want to be confused with a sniper," Grapevine police Sgt. Bob Murphy said.

These roads will be closed for an unspecified time: East Northwest Highway, Dooley Street, Boyd Drive, Ruth Wall Road, Dove Loop Road and Wildwood Lane. Access to the area, even by walking, will be restricted. Security breaches will not be taken lightly, Murphy said.

They used to do this in Rochester, MN when then President Reagan would swing up to the Mayo Clinic. Residents on the 2nd and 3rd floors of apartment buildings along 2nd St were asked to stay away from their windows between certain times as the motorcade drove past.
