Of course, living in Old Saybrook, it's hard not to be content...except for the fact that the New York and Fairfiled County yuppie assholes are moving up this way in droves...Sorry, I hate yuppies second only to my hatred of developers.

But overall, it's not bad. Let me know if you're ever up this way; we'll take you on the Lower Connecticut river Valley tour and have Pilot House hotdogs for lunch.

14. Well, we left because my husband took a job

with a subsidiary of Ethyl Corp. They were based in Richmond, so we had to move. It was very hard. All of my family was still in CT. and I had just had my parent's first grandchild 10 months prior. But, I wasn't working, so we were sort of desperate.

Thing is, it has actually worked out really well. I love where I live here. It is mostly a neighborhood of NY, NJ or CT transplants with the occasional MA newcomer. I don't know a single person who is 'from' here.

The cost of living is awesome. We got our house 14 years ago for 125K, 2500 sq. ft. That is simply unheard of in CT. We lived in Monroe prior to moving here and we had a condo that we purchased for $200K because it was within commuting distance to Stamford, where we both worked.

Funny thing. The job in Richmond only lasted about 2 years. They decided to move to Atlanta and I really didn't want to go further from my family, so he got another job actually pretty quickly and has been there for 12+ years. He travels a lot, but when he is home, we share an office because I work from home, so I think if he didn't travel, we would have divorced long ago.

I love the shore of CT. We try to get to Mystic, etc. at least once per year when we are visiting family and friends. The next time I am up that way, I will PM you. I would love to hook up.

So your neighborhood is kind of an "expat colony" of Northeasterners? I'd never have figured on that, except maybe clumps of retirees in Florida. How do you suppose it got that way? Chance, or word of mouth?

22. I think it got this way because of the low cost of housing.

Just about everyone here telecommutes, including me. My husband has to actually travel, but with three kids and no family nearby, that simply wasn't an option for me as well.

I think this is kind of an up and coming area. We cannot keep up with the growth in terms of schools, roads, etc., but the cost of living allows people who would otherwise have to rent to own a house.

Case in point, Philip Morris moved its NYC operation here last year. When interviewed most of the younger people were thrilled because for the same amount or less that they were paying in rent, they could own a home. When we moved here, we were sort of 'directed' so to speak to certain areas where other employees were moving. It has been pretty good for us. And, at this point, it is my children's home, so we don't plan on going anywhere.

My husband turned down a promotion at his company several times when his boss, who is no longer there, really wanted him to move to NJ. Problem is, our house in NJ would be $700,000. Just wasn't worth it to us. Especially since the kids are happy here.

The community we live in has a pool/tennis club which my kids can walk to. It is better than some resorts. It has a snack bar where they can charge their meals, I mean, really awesome. Last summer, when my dad was dying and I was at the hospital every day, I sent the kids to the pool knowing that they could eat and that they would be under adult supervision. The rules state that if you are 10 you can go without an adult, but my eldest was 14, so she could bring the youngest with her.

It saved my bacon big time. Can you imagine three kids in a hospital room every day? It would have made a difficult situation horrendous.
