Radical Cleric James Dobson likens stem cell research to Nazi experiments
From "Media Matters for America"
Dobson likened embryonic stem cell research to Nazi experiments
http://mediamatters.org/items/200508030007

excerpt:

(During his) broadcast of the Focus on the Family radio show -- devoted to a discussion of stem cell research -- James C. Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, compared embryonic stem cell research with Nazi experiments conducted on live human patients during and prior to the Holocaust. Dobson also likened proponents of embryonic stem cell research to Nazi doctors while suggesting that the Nazis' experimentation likely resulted in discoveries that "benefited mankind"

1. Um, what's this "likely" part?
My understanding is that the Nazis' experimentation DID result in discoveries that benefited mankind, no "likely" about it, which in not the slightest way excuses it to anyone who understands what ethics are. I have a hard time seeing how THAT part of what Dobson said is controversial. I imagine animal rights activists would compare animal experimentation to Nazi human experiments at all, citing the "benefited mankind" argument to say all experimentation is evil. One could use this argument to say all science should stop because Nazism produced scientific advances.

I mean, come on. That's not the part that should be harped on.

3. did the Nazis actually discover anything in their medical experiments?

4. Depends on your definition of 'discover'
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 09:48 PM by Endangered Specie
yes they did 'learn things' (like how fast it takes a man to die when or how long it takes to kill x people with substance y), but whether that 'discovery' (term used VERY loosely) is beneficial to society, I think that can be easily answered. (no)

8. I love the "Radical Cleric" moniker
Gonna use that one all the time for all of them...if I may.

Has Dobson weighed in on the abuse at Abu Ghraib?

Has Jesus anything to say on THAT subject?

12. "Radical Cleric"...
fuching precious!!! If these assholes really believe that stem cell research is so bad, then they should come out against IVF in general. I mean what's worse (if you believe in the whole life begins at conception argument), a quick merciful death or being turned into a freezy pop until someone adopts you as a "snow flake". Oops, never mind, I almost forgot about Teri Schiavo.:wtf:
