We are 5% of the population but spend more in DEFENSE than the next
19 counties COMBINED.

We are the worlds largest "debtor". With a trade deficit that can't be
fixed since CORPORATIONS sent jobs overseas. We don't make anything.

The auto industry is "toast". China is paying labor $6 hr for autos.

Our social safety nets are termed "bankrupt or threatened" (medicare and soc security).

The US savings rate is "ZERO" right now.(report this week)

The "housing bubble" is here and soon interest rates, rising insurance and/or tax increases will "POP" the bubble.

We are not in good shape here.

5. I'm sure you're wrong. I heard on TV just this week that the economy
is in great shape. The fact that I haven't worked in 8 months, that another department store here is going under, and the shopping centers have lots of empty spaces is probably just a small blip here in Florida.

9. Social Security Solvency and Offshore Job Loss
Remember, Social Security is a Pay as you go system, with current workers paying for the benefits of those who are drawing from the system. So when jobs are offsourced overseas it diminishes the pool of payers - and hastens the demise of the Social Security System.

By the way, what percentage of the world's roads do we have? I think the fuel use question is moot unless you know that statistic.
