The words themselves will express outrage far better, if well constructed, than all capital letters can. Studies regarding presentation formats have shown they're harder to read, take more time to read, and thus tend to have lesser impact.

Well written, well formatted letters will get more attention than a raving rant. A word here or there in all caps is probably wise when a passionate tome is written. But, running Change Case in MS Word would hardly be such an effort that it shouldn't be done to improve on the impact.

I actually didn't have any issue with the content. But, i'll stand by the idea that all caps is a bad idea.

The impact is lessened by this technique. Showing rage with a lower impact method would be counterproductive. My letter was simple: I didn't cut and paste it, but i'll paraphrase.

But, i was writing for someone at CNN to read it. I wasn't writing it for you. I knew my audience. If you read something i wrote on DU, and it was full of expletives and capitalized words, you would know the feelings of a fellow DU'er. You would accept it and read the whole thing, despite the "screaming" because it would likely by sympatico with your sensibilities.

The people at CNN are not sympatico with DU. It's just a job for them to read reader input. That audience doesn't want to suffer our outrage. They just want to read what we have to say.
