Heads Up - Seattle to LA -- Earthquake Warning (2- 8 week notice)
Expected Earthquake, Volcanic or Storm Activity
Until Further Notice

August 4, 2005
By Stan Deyo
Home http://standeyo.com

The August 2 RED ALERT is the first of its kind I've ever made in the 11 years of studying seismic event indicators. It is so huge that I almost can't believe my eyes. The importance and severity of this has impressed me more significantly than when I predicted and warned about the coming December 26, 2004 Indonesian events beginning December 22.

For the last 7 days, I've seen indications of a large number of earthquake pressures building across a 2,000-mile long arc in the North Pacific. At first, I thought these indications were a result of large storms so I disregarded them. Until August 2 when a listener (thanks Dan) heard my radio broadcast and emailed information to me, I wasn't able to explain the cause of this discovery.

Below you will see white arrows pointing at this arc of signals that have appeared over the last 7 days. They are heading straight into Mendocino, CA to the area where three tectonic plates meet. Notice on today's image and for 6 days preceding, the clear definition of this phenomenon. It is occurring all along the Mendocino Fault Zone or Ridge. This is a place where the sea floor rises up to within 1,203 yards of sea surface 168 miles west of Mendocino, CA. It's been the subject of a great many technical papers in the world of geology and seismicity.

In addition to the Mendocino Fault, another problematic fault, the Murray Fracture Zone, lies directly south of it and joins the Mendocino at both ends. This is where the major activity and area of concern is today.

He notified people of the same "water warming" before the December Sumatra quake and subsequent sanami.

25. He was WRONG on his prediction
He predicted the earthquake more than a thousand miles from where it actually occurred and gave a large window nbased upon recent seismic activity.

I can make similar predictions right now and will be accurate.

Look at his site, he's wrong most of the time. The law of averages states he'll be right at some time.

Add to that the fact he's a rightwing nutball and his crap falls apart.

3. I'm just an amateur earthquake watcher, but
The quake maps have been hopping all week, and in interesting places. Even flakes get it right once in a while.

One doesn't need an excuse to make sure their quake kit is stocked and ready. Shoes and magnetic flashlight on the wall next to the bed are all lessons learned first hand.

I slept with my purse and shoes next to my bed for years after the 1994 Northridge quake. Got out of the habit but I still always have bottled water, canned food and a flashlight handy.

gotta get the car's earthquake kit back in action.

Beyond the forecasters themselves. My personal theory is that all the water and oil we're sucking out of the ground has a direct relation to planetary seismicity.

47. I did not understand most of it,
but it seems like he has some kind of understanding on the subject that is deeper than most ordinary folks.

His obsession with topics like the rapture erode his credibility in my eyes though. Also, the disclaimer at the bottom of the page which noted that "forecast stress areas can be in error up to 30% due to cloud cover variations and false signals from buoys" seemed to weaken his argument.

I guess we will have to take the wait-and-see approach to this one. If he is correct, I am sure that others in his area of intrest will pick up on his efforts.

18. Oooh... Earthquake... Volcano... or STORM...
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 12:38 PM by IanDB1
SOMETIME within the next 2-8 weeks...

SOMEWHERE between Los Angeles and Seattle...

Hurricane season along the most volcanically and seismically active region of the country (with Mt. St. Helens grumbling for months now) there is bound to be some kind of VOLCANIC or EARTHQUAKE or STORM activity within a 6-week period SOMEWHERE between LA and Seattle.

He's really hedging his bets, isn't he?

Can I try one?

I predict that somewhere between Boston and Miami there will be some kind of industrial accident, multiple-fatality shooting, or storm within the next 2-8 weeks.

20. he is precise in his prediction (maybe a wacky website for sure)
According to his seismic indicators, a zone off the Pacific is being pulled in two directions, and could culminate in pressure around Mendocino, CA, that could trigger the San Andreas fault, affecting an area as wide as Seattle to Los Angeles.

He did predict on his site (based on his methodology) the Suntra quake in December 2004.

I'm not looking to cry wolf... he has been right once so I give him a break.

27. I will watch with an open mind, but...
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 01:08 PM by IanDB1
1) It's a safe bet.

2) "a zone off the Pacific is being pulled in two directions" isn't a "prediction." It's an "observation." And if that observation is correct, it may be because someone else (say, the national geological survey, or "Microsoft Encarta") has already published it.

3) I'm not sure about his Sumatra "prediction," maybe I should look into it.

But good questions are:

1) How many times has he been wrong?

2) On the page where he "predicted" the Sumatra quake, when was the last time the page was updated? What's in the page's Google cache? What's in the Wayback Machine archive?

In any case, this is the first I've heard about this guy, so I'm happy to see more evidence and data.

Even whacked-out crazy people can come up with something honestly good.

For example, the nutjob from "Project Grizzly" seems to have come up with a legitimately ground-breaking material that could be used to protect our troop vehicles. At least, from what I have seen on TV, it looks like his invention works.

So, in short, crazy (and even stupid crazy) people can sometimes be right.

So, let's see if someone here can find proof either way if they're so inclined.

In 1996 Project Grizzly took audiences on a bizarre quest with Troy Hurtubise, a "close-quarter bear researcher" obsessed with going face-to-face with a deadly grizzly bear. Eight years after its celebrated premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Project Grizzly has become an international pop-culture phenomenon.

Directed by Peter Lynch and produced by The National Film Board of Canada Project Grizzly explores the territory between documentary and drama, where the dividing line between fact and imagination is as thin as a knife edge. In this twisted nature film, it is man, not bears, who come under the closest scrutiny. As a pop-culture phenomenon, Project Grizzly has gone where no Canadian documentary has gone before: Quentin Tarantino named it his favorite film of 1996, Harvard awarded Troy Hurtubise their Ig Nobel Prize in 1999 and in 2003 the ultimate compliment was paid as it was famously parodied on "The Simpsons".

Troy's Blast Cushion Stands Proud

Sharpshooter says Hurtubise invention right on target
by Phil Novak
BayToday.ca
Thursday, June 24, 2004

Capt. Keith Cunningham (Ret.) tried his best this past weekend to shoot the living daylights out of Troy Hurtubise’s newest invention, the light infantry magnetic blast cushion.

But Cunningham didn’t have much success, even though he was using a scary arsenal of high-calibre rifles and ammunition.

“I was very impressed with these cushions, particularly with the way they handled the .375 bullets from my elephant gun,” said Cunningham, during an interview from his home in Burnt River, Ont.

“No matter what calibre bullet I used they just couldn’t fully penetrate the cushions.”

Herculean protection

Hurtubise designed the cushions, made with specially treated Kevlar, ceramics, metal alloys and the force-absorbing system from his Ursus Mark-VII bear suit, to shield soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq from roadside bombs that have already claimed military lives in both countries.

I predict:

a tornado will strike somewhere in the Midwest within the next two months.

a hurricane will strike the Gulf Coast within the next two months.

a blizzard will strike somewhere in the northeast US between the months of December 2005 and February 2006.

He uses the shotgun approach to predicting events. Make enough random predictions, especially safe ones like earthquakes in seismically active areas, and you gradually build up a collection of "successes" (which look best when you don't bother mentioning the failures).

I will go out on a limb and predict that a huge fiery ball will emerge on the Eastern horizon some time tomorrow in the early am hours. This enormous ball of fire will then travel across the sky and finally disappear on the western horizon some time after 6:00p.m.

People should be advised strongly NOT to look directly into the gargantuan ball of fire as it will literally burn the retinas out of your face.

40. There was an earthquake off the coast of Oregon yesterday . . .
. . . according to this man's site. (Easily verifiable.) http://standeyo.com/EC_News/050804.OR.EQ.4.6.html

I'm not sure why there are so many scoffers regarding this report. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. It would seem that this man has gone to a whole lot of trouble to try to warn people of what he believes to be imminent danger. His only request is that people be aware and take precautions. "At the very least, you should be sure your emergency stocks of food, water and medicines are what they should be for such an event. We will continue to monitor this situation and are already warning on radio broadcasts. It has the potential to produce enormous tidal waves throughout the Pacific Basin." Why does anyone care if he is right wing, left wing or reptilian. We'll know soon enough if he is right or wrong. In the mean time, would it hurt pay attention? I've been surprised by the number of earthquakes around the world in the past few years — especially Iran. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami that killed over 100,000 people in and around Sri Lanka was something I never expected to see in my lifetime. This person, Stan Deyo, has gone to a whole lot of trouble to provide verifiable proof of the reasoning behind his claims. His religious or political leanings are irrelevant in my humble opinion. We'll all know soon enough if his warnings bear out. If I lived on the west coast, I would sure as hell be boning up on my emergency preparedness plans. I actually live in an active fault zone in Utah County so I'll be paying attention.

This area he is talking about is the same area, where there was a flipping tsunami warning, blocked out every tv/radio station recently, as there was a good sized earthquake in the ocean, not too far from the coast.

Anyone else suspect there may be drilling, who knows what else, with soooooo many earthquakes below the ocean floor?

Best to be prepared and pay attention to subtle signs, instincts, take down any heavy stuff and have extra water, food, flashlight, and extra food for your animal family.

Yep, californians know.

42. better believe it
During the last week of school, down here in Riverside County we got two earthquakes that I can think of (that would be the week of June 12-18, incidentally) right off the top of my head.

Both were sharp jolts, and both times, all four cats were hovering around us, and the dog, well, we were tripping over her continually in the 48 hour window before each quake.

Of course, every time the critters have started acting weird as hell, which is a subjective thing for cats since they're weird all the time, we've had an earthquake. So, we have learned that if the critters are freaking out, time to get ready for a quake.

And yeah, I suspect there's drilling going on, considering the number of quakes on the ocean floor recently.

*sigh* And to think, when I was growing up in Kentucky, all I had to worry about were thunderstorms and tornados....gee, look at all the FUN I missed! :sarcasm:

45. Welcome Ms. K! Glad you and your animals are OK. My birds take off minutes
before, and freak, they are fantastic, but I it is a concern as I do not want them to hurt themselves bumping into the walls. Normally, they can fly and bank, they know exactly where the walls are, as they have never been kept in cages, but right before an earthquake, they fly frantic. It feels like something is building.

Do you have any info about possible drilling affecting the ocean floor?

I think you are safer in an earthquake in CA, with precautions, than a tornado, so you made a good choice:)

It always feels like Mother Nature getting everyone's attention. If only she would shake off the war criminals, it would be such a beautiful planet.

Did you read the stories about elephants actually lifting people with their trunks, and carrying them away from shore, saving many lives? Pretty fascinating and defintely worth following. Yes, animals are the smartest people.

too..

I think, judging by his site, the massive earthquake will probably come before the rapture, definitely before the seventh trumpet sounds, but possibly AFTER "The Antichrist" is revealed.

No, I live in California; it's a good idea to ALWAYS be somewhat prepared for an earthquake. But I vote with Walt, I think this dude's a nutter butter.
