No Bravery by James Blunt (pic heavy)
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 01:16 PM by TyeDye75
Ive never tried one of these posts before but then I saw the lyrics to this song, by James Blunt who was in Iraq himself.

No Bravery

There are children standing here,
Arms outstretched into the sky,

http://www.mondodisotto.it/imageiraq/Two%20Iraqi%20children,%20with%20their%20clothes%20covered%20in%20blood,%20wai.jpg
Tears drying on their face.
He has been here.

Brothers lie in shallow graves.
Fathers lost without a trace.

A nation blind to their disgrace,
Since he's been here.

And I see no bravery,
No bravery in your eyes anymore.
Only sadness.

Houses burnt beyond repair.
The smell of death is in the air.

A woman weeping in despair says,
He has been here.

Tracer lighting up the sky.
It's another families' turn to die.

A child afraid to even cry out says,
He has been here.

And I see no bravery,
No bravery in your eyes anymore.
Only sadness.

There are children standing here,
Arms outstretched into the sky,

But no one asks the question why,
He has been here.

Old men kneel and accept their fate.
Wives and daughters cut and raped.

A generation drenched in hate.
Yes, he has been here.

And I see no bravery,
No bravery in your eyes anymore.
Only sadness.

1. I appreciate this
Thanks for doing it.

I was moved to pen a few lines a few moments ago as I watched funeral services of the Marines killed this week in Iraq. I posted my little offering on another thread but perhaps it really belongs here.

What They Might Have Been

All those lost in wartime
the soldiers sent to combat
civilians too are slain
Bombs cannot target cleanly
not even rifles can
each and every time

What they might have been
these humans lost in war
How many teachers, doctors
spreading learning, sharing healing --
energies unique to them
Gifts to all around them
wherever they might go

Carpenters and plumbers
skillfully constructing things
and handling repairs
that keep the world we live in
in good shape

Pilots, mothers, secretaries
Every role in life as full of meaning
as they fill it

All those lost in war
What might they have been?
What could they have done?
Whom would they have loved --
and given birth to?

War seems like a sin
of vast proportions
when I look far back
to where it all began

When someone flung a stone
at someone else
and crossed a line

Who knew the wars would last
throughout all time

9. Why aren't these pictures on the front pages?
I have never seen them before, and I am a news junkie. If these photos, and others, were on the front pages, the nightly news and all the news magazines, we might be able to find an end to this war and the administration that gave it to us.

I'm beginning to think that with the media and the voting machines in the pockets of the administration, we may be a lost country.

These photos need to be seen. There are so many people that don't have a clue. Is this how we spread democracy?

13. So moving, sad and true
War is always ugly but this one has no room for hints of nobility and honor. How hard it must be to be there, knowing we shouldn't have come, seeing the land and the people in despair, grief and fear all around.

When I was a child I considered being a child in a war torn land and I wrote a poem. I still feel the last lines-
Sounds of gunshots echo through the valley
And will echo long after guns have ceased

The horrors of this wat will reverberate for far too long, far too deeply.

Wonder how it sounds to music. The lyrics are sure devastating with these pictures.

Thanks...and what a sad thing to be thanking someone for.

14. OMG...what is our country doing?? Those poor children will
never get to be children again...they are going to spend their whole childhood just trying to survive.

George Bush, I fucking hate you.

 :grr:

Can't determine whether my tears come from sorrow or anger.

Where's the outrage? Where are the pitchforks and the torches? Where are the masses of the heirs of enlightment? Where's the rioting?

Pray i do not encounter American Tourists today...my blood is loaded with adrenaline. No holidays for US-citizens until American Adolf and his minions have met justice.
