Both real people with complicated, ageless myths which reveal our cultural ideals. Both myths are ever-changing to fit societal needs. Notice the new Santa being slimmer and fitter?

Santa is easier to abandon. Like the Hindu analogy: gods are like ladders--the help you reach a destination, then are no longer needed.
