Cheney's Halliburton In Possible Violation of US Sanctions Against Iran
Dick Cheney's former company Halliburton Co. has opened an office in Tehran, Iran. Although the office is under a foreign subsidiary registered in the Cayman Islands, Halliburton's Iranian operations could violate US sanctions. The law states that "no U.S. person may approve or facilitate the entry into or performance of transactions or contracts with Iran by a foreign subsidiary of a U.S. firm that the U.S. person is precluded from performing directly. Similarly, no U.S. person may facilitate such transactions by unaffiliated foreign persons." The brochure of the Halliburton subsidiary states that it has provided services for two drilling projects in the Iranian sector of the Persian Gulf. How recent were these projects? Cheney left Halliburton just last July. In 1995 President Clinton signed an executive order prohibiting "new investments {in Iran}", or providing services "that would benefit the Iranian oil industry". Punishment for such offenses is up to $500,000 for companies, and up to 10 years imprisonment for individuals. We demand an investigation
