Look, if we want decent media we have to support decent media

So, here list newspapers/radio stations you consider to be trustworthy. Even if it's just your hometown paper.

For me I'd say

The Province (Very good range of columnists) I'd say the Vancouver Sun too, but they are basically the same paper.
The Globe and Mail - Highly recommend, it's Canada's national paper and I've been liking it more and more lately. Great international coverage.

2. Mainstream?

The SF Chronicle and the LA Times. They were pretty reliable until recently, they have been becoming increasingly conservative. Now I sort of get my news from DU.

4. NYT and WaPo have their moments, b ut they can be as big whores

as any of the othr MSM outlets. BBC is good, as is Free Speech TV and Link TV; occasionally, Keith on MSNBC has some actual news.

I agree, we MUST take responsibility - we are just as much to blame as the media if we don't call them out on each and every instanceof bias, Reich-wing whoredom, and just plain NOT NEWS!

Every time a station MENTIONS Michael Jackson (unless it's E!, MTV or VH1) they should be called IMMEDIATELY and told to shut up and INFORM us about what the unelected administration is up to now. Every time they trot out a story about Natalee Holloway, they should be called IMMEDIATELY and be forced to explain how that qualifies as NEWS.
Every time a news hour goes by without someone presenting FACTS and TRUTH about what is happening in our government, we should be calling and demanding accountability.

6. for TV news,I have to say MSNBC.

This is the only place I have seen the issues really explored.I love Ron Reagan on Connected Coast to Coast,and Countdown with Keith Oberman is excellent.

7. Harper's magazine, and it's not that expensive

This month's issue contains an article about how the right wing has distorted Jesus' teachings and an article that details the voting problems in Ohio.

I also like the American Prospect, which is kind of like a paper-based DU for big kids. Each issue has a theme, and experts weigh in from various angles.

For those who bewail the lack of cultural programming on TV, try Ovation and Trio, two digital cable channels. Ovation is the more high-brow, although it has a lot of programs on jazz and pop, as well as features about artists and writers. Trio is more edgy, showing off-beat movies, off-beat old TV shows, off-beat documentaries (they had a whole evening of docs about Texas once), and other, unclassifiable stuff.

11. The "Liberal" NY Times is a myth. They are not "decent" media.

It was their Judith Miller that helped this sociopathic administration lie us into war. They very rarely cover anything lately of importance unless the Washington Post deems its newsworthy. I can go on and on but my fingers will crash on me....

Just cause a paper has a conservative writer doesn't mean they are part of some conspiracy.

I buy the times up here and often see stories that are fair and damaging to the powers that be. So I no longer buy this crap about the times being part of some conspiracy.

18. One story man, that's it

The other day they had front page the story about prosecutors tweaking cases against gitmo detainees.
I'll tell you why they were a month behind on DSM, because they questioned the credibility at first. They still reported on it. It took them a bit. ANd did you notice it didn't seem to have that big of an effect anyway? Perhaps the DSM story is not as much as a blockbuster as thought by many here.

The Economist (most of the time; they can have a bit of a pro-corporate, right-wing bias on occasion, but they're still far ahead of any US newsmagazine)

and, the only trustworthy broadcast media source I can access regularly: The BBC (BBC World News on BBC America, BBC News 24 online, World Service news radio, etc)

And I don't so much consider the NYT to be "decent media". They've had quite a few scandals over improper and outright false reporting of late, and any newspaper that's proud to publish the delusional drivel of Thomas Friedman on its editorial page is hardly "trustworthy", as far as I'm concerned.

15. BLogs are shit

I don't care how many people pretend they aren't. Bloggers don't have the kind of inside connections and journalistic ability real journalists do. Most blogs I've seen are nothing more than a bunch of compiled editorials with hardly any proof to back up their accusations.
