Who trusts that the "investigation" will be on the up and up?

I'm not real wise in the ways of investigations and the Justice Dept., etc.

So my question is open and I am really looking to somebody who can analyze the situation a little..

That is to say, should there be any expectation that there will be a full, honest investigation into the Wilson/CIA issue? It seems that the Justice Dept. is within the administration's tent and they will cover for each other. I am very untrusting (imagine that.. with this president in the White House).. I just think this will somehow be shoved under the rug, or they will identify some patsy, fire him, and maybe even give him some token charges... but it won't be anyone high level or high profile (like Rove, who we just know was involved somehow).

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

It screams for investigation, but from past actions, they'll shrug and say there's nothing there, and then go and arrest another celebrity for selling glassware...

...I guess I should clarify that it's not even an "investigation" yet. More of just an inquiry.. will probably be brushed aside as the Bush cronies close ranks and the JD announces that there are no grounds for further action.

Either that, or the CIA will do some closed door negotiating with the administration, get something they want, and then drop the accusations and the pressure.

Aarrggh!!! hopefully this will at least garner enough bad press to stick in peoples' minds. I just sure would like to see one (or more) of those thugs face some criminal charges.

The main problem with these fundies, like Ashcroft and the evil Asa Hutchinson, is that they firmly believe in their destiny, and believe strongly in their "mission."
They would find it as heinous not to investigate GWB as not to investigate Clinton.
And you know how they felt about that.
Ironic, isn't it, that GWB may be brought down by his own people. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I hope you're right. I see it kind of differently. I think someone like Ashcroft probably recognizes that the only way in God's green earth that he ended up, amazingly, as our attorney general is because fate and a ridiculous man name Bush put him there. I think he will protect those who have helped him.

But that's kind of a simplistic way of looking at it. Chances are, there are a few "boy scouts" who will come forward, in fact it sounds like somebody already did (the anonymous source in the admin who spoke to the Post). I hope hope hope you're right!

like it. So Ashcroft will do the bidding of the real people behind the throne, and so will Asa.
But Asa can't be bought. He really believes. So does Ashcroft, actually. Neither of these men would do anything they would consider unethical. To take down George would require them to believe that George had erred in a big way and must be spanked, so to speak.

He's as crooked and unprincipled a politician who's ever come down the pike. In Arkansas as a District Attorney he allowed George HW Bush to use several points in the state as cocaine way-stations for the funding of covert action in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras.

Ashcroft WILL NOT investigate anything. He wouldn't investigate the voter rights abuses in Florida for starters.

No principles there other than those of party.

I think anyone who knows politics reacts to word that DOJ will do a "thorough investigation" with derisive guffaws.

And I know that he prides himself on doing the "right" thing, and that no human is above the law. He would turn in his own mother, if she broke the law.

The other stuff you write about is all unproven, and I know that Asa didn't do any of that stuff, although I wish it were true. He is diametrically opposed to drugs.

Ashcroft will investigate anything he is given to investigate. The Florida case was not in his jurisdiction. You need to consult the law, then come back and talk about this lucidly. And take the tin foil hat off.

6. I believe that on either the CBS of ABC new tonight, there was a statement

made that there may be need of a special prosecutor because of AssKKKroft. I think that the Dems need to start screaming about this and not let up. And I think the media knows they have a great big scandal on their hands and that, of course, brings in the viewers of the news and readership of the papers, which means more money for the media whores.

I believe they will not let this go.

Might be a chance for him to atone for what he did during Clinton's term. Also, I'm wondering if Novak himself has protection under the First Amendment for participating in this. It's revealing an ongoing government security-related program and is at the least irresponsible of him. Most news outlets will not publish confidential information if they know it can be harmful to a military operation, that is unless they're Faux, how is this any different from that?

I can't believe that No-facts will get much cooperation from the CIA anymore. I'd also check my tires, brakes, and under the hood if I were him.
