A New Wave of Pessimism Washes Over Me
God how I loathe this country and it's abominable, ostrich-like people (sheeple is not pejoritive enough for us "citizens" any more). Not only will the California gleefully overturn a valid election and replace it's governor with a pathetic clown, but I'd bet the farm (or at least what's left of it) on the cabal retaining power come 2004.

I'm so full of anger and hatred for the GOP I can't think straight. Maybe it's best to let the slime have their way and run everything - all 50 states, the entire federal gummit - everything. Let them have their fucking theocracy, their fucking police state, their fucking no-tax anarchy. Let the abominable citizenry revel in their misery. They deserve it all since they brought in on themselves through their placid, shoulder-shrugging acceptance of these truely evil and horrific conservative monstrosities.

It is utterly and unequivocally hopeless. Fuck us all. We deserve it. Just fuck us all.

Bah!, Bah! A thousand times BAH!

2. GOD
I so relate to you!

I feel the same. Sometimes I just think about it, and I'm like "Fuck it! If Bush "wins" again, so fucking be it. The people will one day wake up."

I'm a firm believer in the theory that people get the government they deserve. And I'm loathe to say that right now, in our national state, I believe on the whole, Americans deserve a government of, for and by the Bush Junta.

And if Californians, on the whole, are DUMB enough to vote Davis out, they, too, deserve what THEY get. (My apologies to you Cali liberals).

Ok, rant over.

3. I'll bet that RANT felt good.
We all have to do it just to get rid of the bile in our throat. But, you have had your fun, Bob, now it is time to get back to work.

From me to you.......a

4. yeah.....hock it out...
.....like a great big loogie.

But the big MO is with us now. We're closer to the destruction of the GOP than we have been in many years. If Bush goes down hard, the party will fracture.

A painful lesson for America. Republicans can't be trusted with power.

11. Those big loogies
were known for years as hacking up "the Pittsburg Steelers" in our house (no flames please; but that's another fine fellow to add to my list of "never forgives": Art Modell.

6. I feel like that too, sometimes
especially when contemplating the posibility of that idiot as governor. That really scares me. I'm hoping those maplethorpe photos will surface very soon! I think I've given up hoping that he will be defeated because people will act intelligently.

7. I don't understand how you can say the American people deserve this,
they didn't vote for this guy, he didn't win any election, to get to where he is now. The majority of the people voted for Al Gore. We were all robbed and the media aided and abetted the theives. That's how we got to where we are today. The American people do not deserve this. It's only part of us that support this clown, and that support shrinks everyday.

Lighten up man. You are on the road to a heart attack or stroke.

12. Because they seem to not mind it.
In fact, you could put Pol Pot in washington, and as long as there's a "little tit" to see on HBO, most wouldn't give a shit.

"What a wonderful country we live in! "Happy Gilmore" is out on DVD! God is Good!"

"I don't care if there's Aardvark genes in my food, as long as my lettuce is CRISP..."

"Wow! for only 59 cents more, you get a GALLON of Coke and a BALE of fries! Man, wonder if I need to get on that Atkins diet thing?.."

There's not that many who support Pretzeldent Assclown, but they are an extremely powerful and influential few, secure in the knowledge that the masses don't give a rat's ass as long as they can go shopping.

And that's why the derision. Shakespeare said it best:
"Sleep on, you fat and greasy Citizens..."

16. Oh but we let it happen
We let them take the election away from us by playing fair, by thinking the GOP really had the best interests of the people in mind when they highjacked the government.

And what did our leadership do?

Claim a momentous vicotry when one ideologue was blocked in his quest for a seat on the US Court of Appeals.

Instead of standing up and fighting for the working men and women of this country, who by the way still have no voice save for DK in the crowded democratic presidential field, they all let it happen. Only those secure in their own power raised a dessenting voice.

They were joined by no one to the man or woman, all calculated political risks and put careers in front of the best interests of the people who elected them to fight a just cause.

Instead of grabbing for power in a naked bold way, they tried to do the right thing. It's like playing a footbal game where one side uses the NFL rule book and the other uses the no holds barred approach of Rugby.

Yes, we do deserve it. And I too am very frightened by what the future may bring. My only bright spot is I am 45 and have no children who will have to bear with the ignomanity of living in a once great country founded on ideals and principles that depended on the rule of law for it's moral compass rapidly decline, slip sliding into second class status.

It's like that scene at the end of Camalot, when the king tells a young boy to not join his failed quest to bring a right and just kingdom to the people of Great Britian. Instead, the king who knows he is about to perish, charges the boy to go home and live a good life and tell all who will listen about the once bright spot that was Camalot. Never let the dream die, the embattled king says as the boy runs off. Never let the feeling die even though the King knows he is facing certain defeat.

I go to bed and dream of a better day.....

8. I've been feeling the same for the past few days....the CA thing has
me very upset....how stupid can people be?? If they're that stupid, then what hope do we have in 2004 with the media ready to kiss up to Bush?

Maybe it's because I live with one of THEM and had a huge fight. It's like banging my head against the wall... an intelligent person, totally unwilling to see what's going on! It always comes down to Clinton's blow job as being way more immoral than the crap going on now! It unnerves me to have to live with this...

In the past couple of days I've decided that if Bush "wins" again, I will do everything in my power to get the hell out of this country for at least 6 months out of the year (tourist visa stuff)...

My stomach is in knots, for some reason. All the Dean/Clark stuff doesn't help...

13. can't imprint California on everything, hell man its early days !!
I mean come on, its California (no offense but you guys have to admit that you get more than your share of crazy goings on).

It is just silly to throw in the towel for the national stuff at this point. There is a great deal of work to be done to formulate a winning message and that work is showing some fruit, same with starting to get a sense of who we need to deliver that message.

If we quit before the battle has begun then we do deserve to lose. I'm not quitting, and neither are you. Now put the rum back in the cabinet and go to bed, you'll fell better in the morning (maybe afternoon, take asprin and OJ)

18. Everyone fancies themselves a genius...
and everyone else that doesnt think similarly are idiots. There are bright people on all sides, but a slight difference at the philosophic base can have drastic changes when its percolated through someones entire belief structure.

All I can say is to try not to be so sure your bulletproof - everyone has their blind spots. i.e. The right were certain that the US would be communist now due to the Clintons. The spouted as much hatred and venom as you do now.

Just remember, when you take yourself too seriously, it just means noone else has to.

20. Arundhati Roy & the World Social Forum a better antidote
I feel the same way you do, sometimes, like when I spend too much time reading the posts here at DU which are so centered on American politics. 'Screw it. I hope Shrub gets in office again: the 49% of voters who voted for him and all the ones who didn't vote have gotten what they deserve, and why should I care if the entire world goes to h*ll in a handbasket'.

Then my mind thinks of the rest of the world who don't live here but suffer along with us, and I feel some kind of obligation; and my heart thinks of my little boy, and I can't give up no matter what. Still, it feels like a burden.

But: the antidote is listening to Arundhati Roy speak in her graceful, flowing voice about 'speaking now not as a citizen but as a subject of the American empire, as a subject approaches her king'. Her voice of clear conscience. I think about the World Social Forum with 100,000 or so activists coming from around the world under the theme of 'Another World is Possible'.

Living in the heart of the empire may be painful, but in some small way it is also an opportunity. A cold chance in hell, perhaps -- better than none at all.

But if the strong currents here are too much, jump into that worldwide countercurrent of the World Social Forum for a while and be refreshed.
