is not. Where are the priorities?
This needs to be all over the media.

3. Mary Cary was invited to the WH? When did I miss that?
Were they trying to show the do not discriminate between male and female trollops? (think Gannon)

5. Here is a link
The prospect of the porn star in the same room with the president raised a lot of eyebrows.

Christian evangelical leaders called for an explanation. The only one they got, at least in public, was from a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, who said: "We'll take that money and use it to elect more Republicans."

Kulkis paid $2,500 each for his ticket and Carey's after getting an invitation in the mail.

And, according to the campaign committee's Web site, if Carey had anted up $25,000, she could have had her picture taken with the president.
Yet Cindy Sheehan's son paid with his life and his mother still can't get an audience with Bush.

6. From your link: a FUNDRAISER, not WH event
I knew about the fundraiser appearance.

(CBS) President Bush was among more than 5,000 people at a Republican fundraiser in Washington Wednesday night that took in more than $23 million for congressional campaigns.

But, explains CBS News White House Correspondent Bill Plante, it was another guest who got all the attention she hoped for, and a lot more than her GOP hosts wanted.

The only place in the article where the words 'White House' appear is to help identify a correspondent who covers that beat

Knew about this fundraiser appearance from weeks ago. How could I miss it? Ms Carey was all over the TV talking about it, well, attempting to talk about it, the woman appears to be such a dolt that she is barely able to string a sentence together. The whole thing certainly seemed like just a publicity stunt for her.

Now, those interested in the issue of real invites to the WH by people of questionable credentials should look hard at what appears to be overnight visits there by pretend journalist and self defined male hooker Jimmy-Jeff Gannon.

And the real pornography the administration is involved with is the death and destruction wrought by the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq and the fact that they allow legislation and policy governing corporate entities to be written by those entities! THAT'S OBSCENE.

7. Was making a point
She received an invitation (Kulkis paid $2,500 each for his ticket and Carey's after getting an invitation in the mail) , therefore she was invited. Semantics, indeed.
Regardless--this is insulting. Our WH is up to the highest bidder. Not what is moral and decent.
I would love to see a list of people who have been able to meet with Bush and what reasons.
Cindy Sheehan deserves an answer. She has gone to him--and he needs to step up to the plate and be a man. Let HIM justify this war to someone who has paid for it.

8. Semantics are extremely important. A fundraiser invite is NOT WH invite
The reasons I wanted to get it straight:

1) Thought perhaps this was a new event which I had not hear about, not the old fundraiser story.

2) As many Right Wing pundits like to use erroneous info posted by accident or on purpose on DU to denigrate the DU and other liberal sites, it is damned important that we get things right here. To do otherwise is to give them ammunition with which to attack our honesty and motives. I can imagine Rush on the air: "Those liers at DU, spreading rumors that a pron star was invited to dinner at the White House... can you imagine how..." Why give him the chance?

No personal attack to you, just interested in getting things right.

Semantics are extremely important when the opposition likes to turn what we say against us. Neatness counts. Sloppiness will be used against us.

10. I agree with you, but in this situation...
I actually think it would be great if the GOP tried to attack us over those semantics. I can just see it, "We only invited her to our fundraiser, not to the White House!" They would only be bringing more attention to the fact that they DID invite her to the fundraiser. It would make great Daily Show material, and leave the White House looking really stupid in the end.

That being said though, you are correct we do need to be careful to make sure the things we say are accurate, and we should not make things like that up even if it does trap them into making a stupid response. We do need to take the higher ground, but if someone were to make a semantic mistake such as that one and the White House jumped on it I would be cheering.

11. Look, the WH did not invite Ms Carey. The folks running the fundraiser
did. So blame the GOP, not the WH on this one. There is no onus on the WH in this and trying to put it there is a foolish waste of energy and integrity.

With so many REAL offenses by the b*sh WH, why pretend they pulled a bone head stunt with this issue? Pick on the money grabbing hacks of the party for this bit of stupidity. Blame the WH for the real shit they do.

Don't confuse the two as it gives the RW pundits every reason to dismiss what you/we say as 'just more petty partisan attacks'. Remember the Dan Rather/AWOL/bad evaluation of Lt. Bush issue? The facts were correct, but the paper was a plant and it made the whole issue get dismissed as as false and Rather/CBS as idiots on the attack and not above fabricating a story. Don't know about you, but I would rather push accuracy than just trying to tie the WH to something they DIDN'T do as a cheap shot or for fun and giggles.

There are too many real horrors to hold them accountable for. Better to focus our efforts there. The White House did not invite Ms Carey. They did start a pointless war and cause the deaths of tens of thousands while assuring that America would be less safe in the future by creating more reasons for others to hate us. Oh, and they have run up a huge tab for generations to pay off in the future. THAT is worth screaming about.

13. I think you misunderstand me...
The White House DID accept a check from Mary Carey, and even if they were invited by the GOP you can not deny that the GOP is heavily connected to the White House. I am not advocating pushing misleading information I am just saying that the original posters errors were not that severe, I think he should acknowledge his error but I also think that his words were pretty close to the truth.

I agree with you that this is not the most important issue to go after, but as a side issue it does point out the "family values" hypocrisy.

16. GOP FUNDRAISER = Check went to the GOP not the WH!
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 03:13 PM by havocmom
:eyes: & :banghead:

Never said the GOP wasn't connected to the WH but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. The fundraiser was for GOP candidates. b*sh is NOT on the list of candidates. The check did not go to the WH and neither did Ms Carey, which was the error in the original post which said Carey was invited to the WH.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

edited to get my smilies right

4. Carey Showed Up At A Fundraiser... Not Invited To The Whitehouse.
They wouldn't have anything to do with her when she got there.

Cindy just needs 100,000 dollars and she can get in the room...

9. Nominated.
While the OP needs a small revision -- it was indeed a fund-raiser-- the concept is right on target. There is always value in comparing a dirty glass of water to a clean glass, and allowing a thirsty public to decide.
