When Will Xian Right Extremist Bullies Stop Backing Repugs?
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 10:46 AM by Dem Agog
Christian Right Extremists like James Dobson have been pulling Boy Hitler's tail string for years. Now Boy Hitler & his handlers are not only NOT up for re-election, but may be facing some serious convictions.

When will Christian Right Extremists realize that mainstream Republicans don't support the western world Taliban agenda they're trying to push on us? They can't and expect to get elected after all of America has watched Dumbya and Crew so openly lick, suck and service the Holy Trinity of Big God, Big Oil & Big Corp for the past six years. Too many men have died at the altar of these gods for people to just say "Oh those frothing fundie Christians. How cute." anymore.

What will happen when Fundamentalist Extremists realize they won't get their way? Will they dress their babies up in Easter Bonnets and bombs like their Muslim Extremist brethren do? Will they just go back under the rock from where they've been crawling out?

When will moderate Christian believers take the reign back on their religion and reign in the Extremists? Will it take them longer than it's taking the Muslims to reign in their Extremists?

1. They *are* getting their way. They see this gov't as temporary.
After all, these are the End Times.

2. I doubt it will ever happen
Unless some dirt can be dug up on their heros... or Bush goes back to blowing cocaine and drinking heavily again.

3. They have a common
message: hate.
The moderates are trying somewhat but they are years behind.

4. The Rs are a tool for them to gain and retain power.
This is all about gaining power, just like Falwell used the CC to gain access in the 80s, so the current Rs serve as a means to an end. As long as moderate Rs are willing to toss bones to the RR and feed them red meat every once in a while, they will use the Rs. It is the moderate Rs that have to be peeled off. Once that group is peeled off, the RR will have to devise a name for itself and deal in the open.

5. I think it'll happen in the reverse
Once the Republicans start to see the religious nuts as a liability rather than as a source of strength, they'll cast them aside. It's up to us to make that sooner, rather than later.

6. The Frothing Fundies are going to be hard to beat
They are highly enrgized at all levels of government, from PTA/PTOs, the school board, city and county council, state offices, and federal offices. They are committed, active, loud, pushy, and have no doubts they are doing God's work.

They have two other advanteges over everyone else. If you oppose them, you are opposing God. This keeps a lot of moderate Christians from opposing them. Also, their platform is simple: small government, Ten Commandments, prayer in school, evolution is the devil's work, etc. It doesn't have to make sense because, as we all know, nothing about religion makes sense. God works in mysterious ways.

They will continue to try to take over the GOP because the GOP needs their votes. Someday they may completely take over the GOP, much to the surprise and horror of the party leaders. I think the GOP party leaders underestimate the power, and danger, of the religious right.

10. True. With their help, GOP was able to make gay marriage an issue
in '04, and even alerted some in WV about how liberals had a plan to outlaw the Bible or some such nonsense.

The issues of abortion and homosexuality (and their offshoots) have given something for the GOP to tout even when they had nothing else to say, and have also provided them with rightwihg church power and support.

The only thing that may turn off rightwing christians (individually, probably not as a group) is a bushco policy begins to hurt them personally (economically or a family member lost in combat). They are such single-issue voters that they don't seem to care about anything else, so they're obliviious to the endless ethical scandals of this administration. Besides - for them, the only issues they believe are scandalous are connected to sex.

7. The Religious Right leaders ARE getting their way. Its the followers
who are being used. When will they realize that Roe v. Wade will never be overturned and Pat Robertson is just in it for the money and power and the Catholic Church is filthy rich?

9. The next SCt vote on Roe v. Wade
Either they will get what they want, or they won't.

Whatever the result, the need to back a repub president NO MATTER WHAT is gone.

Right now they simply lie for the greater cause and pretend that Bush has done and can do no wrong. Once abortion either fails or succeeds in the SCt, will then be free to admit that yeah, a war sucks, yeah, they too want clean air, yeah, the economy is bad, yeah, what's good for the rich isn't necessarily good for everyone.
