How could someone be AGAINST the war and then FOR it?

I dont understand this at all:

His firm posture reflects his stance on the war in Iraq, which has grown only more resolute as the nation’s casualties mount.

“In the beginning, I was totally against it,” said Zayas, whose son is in the Army in Iraq. “But now that we’re there, we’re making a difference and we should stick it out. We’ve lost too many lives.”

I was the exact opposite.

2. Trying to hold onto the belief that this child is not risking his life

for a lie. I would guess that his son being sent has everything to do with the shift in stand.

He has gone from rational to irrational. There was a factor that moved him in that direction: his son. The evidence is the statement about "too many have died..." Very sad.

That's gotta be a tough thing to get your head around.

One can't expect the grieving parent to be in a frame of mind for logic to be the ultimate goal.

Doesn't he realize how many more lives are going to be lost for something we are not going win. I guess they just cannot face what is happening.

His son is in Iraq now.

people think that we need to be there to provide security for the Iraqi people. The truly evil, like the republican leadership always know how to take everybody down with them if they fail. There is no Iraqi army to provide security, we destroyed it, so now we're stuck with the security job. Evil, simply evil.

Even here in conservative VA, many people who voted for the * are speaking ill about the war. Calling to have the troops come home.

11. It's not logical however

He can't stand to lose. Look at the emotion behind this statement. "...we should stick it out. We've lost too many lives". They can't stand to lose, they can't stand to be wrong and they can't stand to look at the truth of what's happening. They can't admit that too much has already been lost so pretend you're really winning and keep doing the same thing.

Another DU'er and I both have similar arguments over a different article in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

(by the way we can't be too hard on this man as Kerry made some strange, mixed statements about the war as well.)
