Freepers: How can Poppy explain this picture? blm? Anyone?
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 11:51 AM by Octafish

It shows Barbara B, Poppy Bush, Rev Moon's right-hand man Canton Kwang Moon Pak and a couple others joyously cutting cake together.

Freepers: Ya'll know that Rev. Moon helped give North Korea the technology to launch sea-based nukes at the USA?

DUers: You do know that Rev. Moon owns the Washington Times and more than a few politicians -- hint hint.

blm: This is old hat for you, but fill us in with a few juicy details, please.

29. Poppy loves GOLD, too.
From Greg Palast, a real journalist:

Poppy Strikes Gold

By Greg Palast,
UTNE Reader
April 2003
From The Best Democracy Money Can Buy (Penguin/Plume, 2003)

In this excerpt from the recently-released U.S. edition of his book The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, renowned investigative reporter Greg Palast details the shady—and extremely lucrative—connections between former president George H. W. (“Poppy”) Bush, a little-known Canadian gold mining company, and the political fortunes of Poppy’s son Dubya. This damning story, and a second one we’ll run next week, were deleted from the British edition of Palast’s book for fear they would run afoul of that country’s draconian libel law—which makes it a crime even to print a true story if the facts could harm the reputation of a person or company.
—Ed.

George W. could not have amassed this pile if his surname were Jones or Smith. While other candidates begged, pleaded and wheedled for donations, the Bushes added a creative, lucrative new twist to the money chase that contenders couldn’t imitate: “Poppy” Bush’s post-White House work. It laid the foundation for Dubya’s campaign kitty corpulence and, not incidentally, raised the family’s net worth by several hundred percent.

In 1998, for example, the former president and famed Desert Stormtrooper-in-Chief wrote to the oil minister of Kuwait on behalf of Chevron Oil Corporation. Bush says, honestly, that he “had no stake in the Chevron operation.” True, but following this selfless use of his influence, the oil company put $657,000 into the Republican Party coffers.

That year Bush pere created a storm in Argentina when he lobbied his close political ally, President Carlos Menem, to grant a gambling license to Mirage Casino Corporation. Once again, the senior Bush wrote that he had no personal interest in the deal. However, Bush fils made out quite nicely: After the casino flap, Mirage dropped $449,000 into the Republican Party war chest.

Much of Bush’s loot, reports the Center for Responsive Politics, came in the form of “bundled” and “soft” money. That’s the squishy stuff corporations use to ooze around U.S. law, which prohibits any direct donations from corporations.

Not all of the elder Bush’s work is voluntary. His single talk to the board of Global Crossing, the telecom start-up, earned him stock worth $13 million when the company went public. Global Crossing’s employees also kicked in another million for the younger Bush’s run. (We’ll meet Global Crossing again in Chapter 3.)

2. That particular picture is of RevMoon's righthand man Pak.
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 11:06 AM by blm
But, even still freepers cannot answer the question WHY the Bush family has covered up for RevMoon and used his extensive media and financial sources for over forty years now.

Mainly, they are ignorant. You think even ONE freeper is even cognizant of the fact that thanks to the Bush-Moon alliance, RevMoon now controls HALF this nation's fishing industry? You think they'd be pleased to find out about that?

Or that Moon owns millions of acres of land above the largest aquifer in the world? Water wars will soon dwarf the viciousness of the oil wars.

Or that Moon is the driving force of Bush's Korean policies?

Moon even funded alot of the organizations that pushed fundamentalism onto every religion in the 70s, including Catholicism (TFP) and evangelistic protestantism (Tim LaHaye, his ilk, and whole LEFT BEHIND bullshit).

To trust their motives you're actually trusting RevMoon's.

30. Thanks, blm! I stand corrected. Remember Poppy and the Masseuse?
OT: Found a copy of the pic showing Poppy in a bath robe, smiling, and the young woman who'd just given him a rub down. She doesn't look too happy.

I believe it reads: "Annie Sun: You are a terrible therapist. Many thanks. (signed) George Bush 12-12-98."

What class.

Returning to the subject: The reason the BFEE keeps their horde ignorant is that they don't want to cause a stampede before Chimpageddon. No matter what, though, Rev. Moon, Poppy, Sneer and the rest of the elite will be safe and sound.

Dark Side of Rev. Moon

Kerry Attacker Protected Rev. Moon
The producer of an anti-John Kerry video, which will be aired on stations across the United States before the Nov. 2 election, also attacked federal investigators who were cracking down on Rev. Sun Myung Moon's mysterious money flows in the 1980s. A book by Carlton Sherwood helped silence Moon's critics and enabled the South Korean theocrat to continue funneling hundreds of millions of dollars into the U.S. political process. October 15, 2004

Mysterious Republican Money
House Speaker Dennis Hastert implied, without evidence, that liberal funder George Soros funnels drug money into the U.S. political process. But Republican administrations have looked the other way when facing evidence that conservative benefactor Sun Myung Moon has ties to overseas drug lords and has engaged in a long-running conspiracy to launder money. September 7, 2004

The Bush-Kim-Moon Triangle of Money

Rev. Moon, the Bushes & Donald Rumsfeld

Rev. Moon's Uruguayan Money-Laundry

Rev. Moon & His 'Green Card'
Newly released federal documents reveal that Rev. Sun Myung Moon, a principal funder of the conservative movement, gained U.S. residency status 25 years ago, under President Nixon.

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Buying the Right
Rev. Sun Myung Moon calls America "Satan's harvest" and vows to subjugate its people under a Korea-based theocracy. Normally, this anti-Americanism would not sit well. But Moon has spread around billions of dollars from mysterious sources to Washington conservatives. The money has helped key allies, such as Jerry Falwell and Oliver North. It's the real Asian money scandal -- and the Washington media is missing it. (8/11/97)

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Legend & Lies
Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Washington Times is demanding that other media play up hearings on how Asians bought influence with Democrats. In its outraged stance, the Times calls itself "America's Newspaper." But it conceals its own role as a secret purveyor of Asian money and its control by the Korean-based Unification Church. Left off the masthead are its publisher, Dong Moon Joo, and its founder, Moon himself. (8/25/97)

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Generation Next
In 1982, Rev. Sun Myung Moon went to jail for tax fraud. Yet, new testimony suggests that Moon's organization did not change its ways. Questionable practices continue, with church money supporting a decadent lifestyle for Moon's family and with bags of cash arriving from overseas for laundering through church-connected firms, such as the Manhattan Center. (9/8/97)

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Drug Allies
Washington is obsessed with interpretations of arcane fund-raising laws. But a more serious question -- the political influence-buying of Rev. Sun Myung Moon -- remains unasked. The issue is particularly important because of Moon's free-spending ways and his past alliances with anti-communist crime figures connected to the Japanese yakuza of Ryoichi Sasakawa and the U.S. drug mob of Santo Trafficante Jr. (10/13/97)

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Moon's Billions & Washington's Blind Eye
Newly released Justice Department files show how the Reagan-Bush administrations cited the Constitution to protect Rev. Sun Myung Moon from investigation as a foreign agent -- while using his organization to spy on American critics of Reagan policies. Moon apparently earned his political protection the old-fashioned way: he bought it with lots of money. (12/22/97)

One Mother's Tale: Rev. Moon & a College Freshman
Rev. Moon may devote much energy wooing power-brokers, but his theocratic movement continues to waylay unsuspecting young people -- and wreak havoc on their families. (7-28-97)

Dark Side of Rev. Moon: Hooking Bush
Despite his virulent anti-Americanism, Rev. Sun Myung Moon still relies on friends in Washington to help him expand his political-and-media power base. Moon's latest reach into South America had the helping hand of former U.S. President George Bush. But the Moon-Bush alliance dates back years and could reach into the future, as Bush lines up conservative backing for the expected White House bid of his eldest son. (7/28/97)

34. I blame Dr. Laura. I mean it: Rev. Moon Owns Dr. Laura, too.
I kid you not, iamjoy!

Of all people, and I use that term very loosely...

The Rev. Sun Myung Moon Buys Dr. Laura

EXCERPT...

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the champion of morality, is going to bed with Sun Myung Moon, the anti-Christian cult leader. Moon is contributing an unknown amount of money to Dr. Laura so she will appear at the Washington Times 20th anniversary celebration on May 21.

SNIP...

Almost one-third of the U.S. Senate and one-third of the U.S. House of Representatives are listed as members of a "Host Committee" to honor Sun Myung Moon on May 21 at the Washington Times 20th anniversary event. The vast majority of members on this Host Committee are Republicans. More than 40 distinguished leaders, most of them conservatives, are also listed as members of the Host Committee.

A representative of the "United States Administration" - the Bush Administration - is listed as a speaker at the event.

Talk about giving the liberals a campaign issue!

Liberals must be salivating at the prospect of making the charge that pro-family conservatives have sold out to a cult leader.
Moon has business dealings that are more convoluted and controversial than those of Enron. One difference is that Moon has been convicted of a crime and Enron CEO Ken Lay has not.
What's more, Moon has a controversial business relationship with North Korea. And the Washington Times has concealed it.
Some members of Congress may have thought they were honoring the Washington Times on its 20th anniversary and that they were scheduled to hear Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Perhaps like them, Dr. Schlessinger thought she was honoring the Washington Times when she accepted an invitation to speak there on the evening of May 21. Like conservatives nationwide, the paper supported her when she came under assault by the militant homosexual lobby. But then she discovered that the paper's founder, Sun Myung Moon, was going to be the keynote speaker, and that she was being asked to "recognize the contribution of the founder" in her remarks. The official invitation to the event shows that her remarks are supposed to precede his speech, providing a photo opportunity so that he can appear on stage with her.

38. In the news: Guess where Uncle Sam has set up a new FOB? PARAGUAY!
Madsen's the man. Posted today (Aug. 9, 2005):

The Moon King of Paraguay: Protected by U.S. Troops

August 9, 2005 -- U.S. base in Paraguay established to protect Sun Myung Moon's water and land resources. With U.S. troops currently protecting Halliburton's oil operations in Iraq and the CentGas pipeline in Afghanistan, U.S. troops are now being sent to Paraguay, complete with immunity from criminal prosecution by Paraguay or the International Criminal Court, to protect the millions of acres of Paraguayan water and land resources bought over the years by religious cult leader Sun Myung Moon. It is not coincidential that Moon's Unification Church has many followers within the Bush administration. Last month, 500 U.S. troops arrived in Paraguay to expand the Mariscal Estigarriba air base to handle large U.S. military transport planes. Moon's land acquisitions in Chaco Province are just north of the huge Guarani aquifer, one of the world's largest sources of fresh water. In addition, Moon has acquired large tracts of land on the Brazilian side of the Paraguayan border. Local villagers in Paraguay and Brazil claim that most of Moon's land acquisitions were fraudulent and illegal. Moon's World Unification Church operates in Paraguay under a corporate contrivance called the Victoria Company. Paraguay has also announced that everyone entering and leaving Paraguay will be photographed and fingerprinted. Not coincidentally, the new border control system is being financed by South Korea.

There is clearly a split within the Paraguayan government, with the Vice President and Pentagon neo-con ally Luis Castiglioni negotiating, along with a majority in the Paraguayan Congress, close bilateral military ties with the United States, apparently without the concurrence of President Nicanor Duarte. It is no coincidence that considering the oil-centric Bush administration, the Mariscal Estigarriba air base is close to large Bolivian natural gas reserves in the neighboring Bolivian provinces of Santa Cruz and Tarija.

The U.S. move in Paraguay comes at the same time the U.S. is stepping up its "counter-narcotics" operations from its Manta, Ecuador base and Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is accusing the United States of using Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) personnel in Latin America as espionage agents trying to destabilize his government. In addition, the Paraguayan military operations are seen as a Bush administration attempt to intimidate neighboring Bolivia, where MAS Socialist party and coca farmer (cocalero) leader Evo Morales is poised to become the next President in scheduled December elections after years of popular demonstrations which saw Bolivian workers and peasants deposing a series of pro-U.S. presidents. A Morales government would add another anti-U.S. and free trade government in South America, joining Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

So soon, the mothers and fathers of U.S. military personnel will be able to take comfort in sacrificing the lives of their sons and daughters for a self-proclaimed Messiah, a non-English speaking Korean who claims to have saved the souls of Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, Buddha, Stalin, and Hitler and communicates regularly with others in his departed flock of adherents, including all the deceased Presidents of the United States (who, Moon claims, appointed Richard Nixon as their spokesman from the "hereafter").

15. Can someone please explain this even stranger part of the Bush-Moon thing?
What I don't understand about shrub sr, and the whole f***ing Bush clan is how cheap they are -- and I don't mean frugal, I mean how cheap it seems to be to buy them.

If poppy is so rich, how can he be bought off for a mere $250,000 (???) to sell out his country, according to Ian's post above?

The Chinese bought Neil bush for something like $2 million, $400G stock options, $10,000 a pop for board meetings and a couple of cheap Asian hookers, who ended up giving him the clap anyway (or maybe it was herpes -- it was in his divorce papers).

I mean this is a shit load of money to you and I, but aren't the shrub clan supposed to be filthy rich? The amount of money it takes to purchase a bush, including poppy would be chump change -- a few hours of dividend and interest earning time -- to a Cheney or a Rumsfeld.

Or are they really not that rich? I mean shrub himself was a broke, busted failure until he got his baseball giveaway, and Neil seems to be utterly useless, talentless and moneyless except for when he is selling his ass to the Chinese.

I once heard (and it may be apocryphal) that in Texas, the term "Bush league" was used to refer to anyone who was well off but wasn't really really oil rich, and was a deliberate slap at the pretensions of the bush clan.

22. The money reported isn't all there is - no way, no day.
There is also the benefits from the policies and the agreements made that will never be seen on the business page of ANY newspaper.

Moon controls almost all the studio space around DC. The media uses his studios and crews for dirt cheap prices - they, in turn, won't probe into Moon's dealings or examine Bush's dealings too closely, either.

Not to mention, that Moon's Washington Times and his main reporter, Bill Gertz, are a huge help in rewriting history for the Bushes.

16. Yes. The Bu*h family and Moon are fascists that have the common interest
of permanently ending democracy in America and eventually the world, so they party together and talk about their common interests.

20. Rev. Moon was coronated King in the US Senate building...
But I imagine the irony would be lost on the Freepers, but I'll try anyway:

Rev. Moon was coronated "King of America" in a building used by a democracy, the United States of America, for one of its democratic institutions.

Sun Myung Moon crowned 'King of America' at U.S. Senate Building.

35. Hmm, King of America.
Funny, that's what Ashcroft called Jesus at his big Bob Jones University appearance.

37. Republicans are just born-again Royalists. If it was up to them our anthem
today would be God Save the Queen.

And freepers are just too dumb to realize it.

27. The elitist of the elite: those who join to "rule the world".
Sadly, they are so dysfunctional and sick that, they are spreading their disease.

28. If this thread had "abortion," "Hillary," or "gay marriage" in the title..
There'd be freepers lining up out the door to mix it up with us.

But try to engage them on Moon's funding of the "conservative revolution" and....tumble weeds.

Why is that?
