Daylight-Saving Switch May Cause Tech Woes. Progress versus Congress

When daylight-saving time starts earlier than usual in the United States come 2007, your VCR or DVD recorder could start recording shows an hour late.

An energy bill President Bush is to sign Monday would start daylight time three weeks earlier and end it a week later as an energy-saving measure.

--
During the OPEC oil boycott of the 1970's, one year, congress cancelled the switch to standard time in order to save energy. Many asked how this would save energy. How will an even smaller change save energy this time?

1. I'd have to reset my DVD recorder? Hell no!
Ask me to remember to add/subtract 1 hour from my online calendar? I mean, really, how can you ask such a thing?

I could see if there was a problem with navigation, but think I could handle my vcr/clock/calendar ok. But then I like to balance my checkbook in my head too.

2. It won't........
but it gives the very ignorant in our country a sense that their pretzelnit is doing something to conserve energy. You know, the people that already support him anyway.
It's one of the most stupid ideas from an administration chocked full of stupid ideas.

7. The rule changes are not good enough.
It should be four weeks in the Fall and four weeks in the spring.

It's 1 and 3 weeks in the rule change.

3. I don't know about your VCR, but I can tell you about the
expensive nightmare this is going to be for the travel industry!

Every airline, bus company, and train has to jump through lots of hoops to reschedule all their connections, International flights are probably the worst! U reakky have a difficult time understand just how this change is going to save any $$! I know, I sleep about the same amount of time every night, and just because they're changing the close isn't going to change that!

I either use my lights in the morning or at night!

4. Yep. That was the first thing my husband said when I told him about
the proposal to expand DST. It will screw up all the software they've written at his company. Personally, I like it because moving the start date that early in March means that the time change would never again conflict with Easter Sunday. But that's just me being selfish since I am a church organist. The Bush administration has finally proposed one thing that appeals to my baser self-serving nature.

5. Can't help but think it is really a ploy to get workers at the office
earlier so American business will be up and running more when the other markets of the world are awake and working. Half expecting them to move the clocks up 2-3 hours next time. Pretty soon, US workers will be getting to work the same time as the ones in London. Plenty of time to bounce around with the markets in the far east. One world, one giant corporation, no individuals, just cogs in a machine.

It doesn't make the sun shine on us longer to reset the clocks. The energy saving arguement is BS.

9. Y2Dumbass....
We should just stay on DST. Then in the futre we could look at turning the clocks back in the summer time for a 3 month period so that it isn't 100 degress with the sun up at nine.
Seriously this adjustment would even out the amount of light making people that suffer from seasonal depression very happy.
