Are the top Dems cowards?
Why aren't any of them supporting Ms. Sheehan?

23. Yes, they are cowards and on top of that, part of the problem.
Remember, most of them voted to give * the authority to pre-emptively attack Iraq, and if they go down to support her, they will be showing their hypocrisy, but, DAMN IT, this isn't about them; this is about a brave woman who lost her son because of their stupid judgement and they should all be down there supporting her.

3. They are waiting to see if the public as a majority will stand behind her.
Ratings, as you know are most important in the grand scheme of things.

4. Not necessarily--just (unfortunately), sometimes trying to be
all things to all people. Which is an impossible line to walk. I just wish they would get a clue about that and cut it out.

5. Well although I've never won an election
and have no idea how to do so, I can say, without a doubt that they are total wusses who have no idea what they are doing.

6. The bigger question, why aren't the standing up for anything that
is important to 'we the people'? They are getting paid too much for doing too little...vote 'em all out! But they still will get pensions for life, whether they 'serve' their constituents or not. We be screwed not matter what.

"I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!"

7. Better watch out
when you bash the Dems, your post will be made fun of, and then locked. I feel the only way to find a solution to the problems are to put the stuff out there and discuss it. The Democratic Party (most) disappoints us every day!

8. Of course most of them are calculating cowards
including John F. Kerry who was afraid of being labeled unpatriotic and voted for the Eye-raq war. When it came time to run for president he comes up with the nonsensical excuse that he was only voting for resolution to use force. How dumb do they think we are-They think they can pee on people and say its raining.

I would never vote for any one Democrat who voted for the calamity in Iraq and/or who does not call out Dumbya in the clearest, loudest voice.

9. We should start writing to our Reps and Senators
to bug them
particularly people from California, since Sheehan is from Vallejo.

does anyone have some convenient links to get a hold of these people?

10. oh yeah by the way
I think I saw Barbara Boxer come out for Sheehan. It was just a little bit on CNN that she showed for a second in connection with the story.

Barbara never lets us down.

19. Cindy is from Vacaville, California.
There are two zip codes there, for those looling up her reps.

95688
95687

Vacaville is my hometown and I have been following her tireless work since Casey died.

I actually graduated a few years before Casey (I'm about three years older than he was.)

14. you'd think there'd be a at least
a small group of ''rebels'' -- besides boxer -- supporting her.

but i would LOVE to see a dean or kerry or even kennedy come out in full support of her.

ya know -- it couldn't hurt.

16. maybe they don't want to detract from her message
maybe they think Sheehan is more of a mother than a partisan democrat, and that what Sheehan is saying is non-partisan, and don't want to fuck up her message by making it partisan.

21. "top Dems" are part and parcel of the Establishment
Their role as such is not to try to introduce change and reform, but rather to stop it. Furthermore, so long as they keep getting re-elected, they hold on to their posh offices, loads of perks, and the power that comes with their office -- no matter how well or poorly they represent their constituents.

Apparently there are STILL many on these boards who operate under the assumption that the national Democratic Party is some kind of engine for reform. It is not. If it were, the top positions in the party would be occupied by people like Marcy Kaptur, Bernie Sanders, Barbara Lee, and so on, rather than Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Harry Reid, et. al.

The Democratic Party is a party of advanced capitalist interests. The battle for its soul was fought in 1968 and 1972, and it is perfectly clear who won that fight. So, if you're interested in really changing things and pushing true alternatives rather than just "more of the same, but just a little different", then you should look elsewhere for answers than the national Democratic Party.
