QUESTION: best rebuttal to "No new taxes" mantra?
this is one of the of the most effective bits of propaganda the right has come up with in the last couple of decades. The only thing the left has that even comes close is "Why would you vote against your own economic interests?"

We cannot have decent schools or fix health care without have a simple, accurate, and durable (not just appropriate to current admin) counter mantra.

Any ideas?

1. Democrats think for themselves
No Rubberstampers here!
Our leadership doesn't send us Talking points to repeat over and over again.
We think for ourselves, We speak our mind.
and that's what this country is all about.
People with the courage to think for themselves.

2. No taxes, no war.
no pothole repairs, no new schools (like they care about that), long lines at government agencies, no public libraries, no more cops, no more firefighters, no new public works projects like sewers and water

6. So you want "no new investments?"
A tax (provided it doesn't go straight into Halliburton's rapacious maw) is an investment. Want your kids to have a better future? Think they might need a good school? Want to keep our technological and innovative edge? Better invest in your public universities. How about safe roads and bridges? Think that might just help the economy? Want to protect your investment? Probably better think about helping pay for police and fire protection. Which is more cost effective - providing good schools, job training, social services, mental health care for your town or building another prison. Want parks and libraries? Better pay up.

9. why do you hate america?
no new taxes? no country.

it's unpatriotic to not want to pay your taxes -- pure and simple.

and the same holds true with new taxes.

12. Deficit financing a tax-cut is a de-facto TAX-INCREASE, because

the bonds that we're issuing to cover the budget shortfall are SERVICEABLE DEBT. The bill's coming due.

15. everything works but "surcharge" change to dues or something
Even more vexing, is the GOP has undermined the idea of progressive taxation, based on ability to pay.
