7. this is genuinely depressing
an excellent anchor (best ever in my opinion), great sense of humor, and unbelievably intelligent (he did better on his citizenship exam than most americans would).

i'll miss him.

God bless you Peter!

I guess that's why we've not heard anything about him in a long time. I cried when I watched his last broadcast. He sounded sooo very bad.

25. Oh, this is so sad. I truly hoped that he would beat this. He had such
intelligence, wit, and I think, compassion. And an intense hunger for knowledge (though not enough hunger for knowledge of B* administration's wrong-doings.) He has been and will be missed.

30. He got me through 9/11.
Rather and Brokaw were making me more jumpy and upset than I already was. Jennings was this cool, calm, soothing voice on that horrible day. A class act. ABC is doing a great tribute to him now in a special report and CNN and MSNBC are also doing very nice tributes to him at the moment as well. So sad.

34. A Legend Passes: Peter Jennings Dies at 67
I stopped watching TV news quite a few years ago, but if I opted to turn it on, it was Peter Jennings who I turned to. Who can forget the endless hours after 9/11 that Peter Jennings was there “offering a soothing sense of continuity during a troubled time.”

“There are a lot of people who think our job is to reassure the public every night that their home, their community and their nation is safe,” he told author Jeff Alan. “I don’t subscribe to that at all. I subscribe to leaving people with essentially — sorry it’s a cliche — a rough draft of history. Some days it’s reassuring, some days it’s absolutely destructive.”

36. FRom FR
There are servicemen who died in Iraq, because of Jennings reporting. There are folks who died in this country because Jennings did his best to disarm them, by shaping public opinion about guns. Certainly that was his right. Facts are stubborn things. Now he faces them. Unaddorned. No Spin. He gets to meet his dead brethren.

47. The funny thing is....I liked Jennings so much because he was so skeptical
of BOTH sides of the political spectrum. He is the epitome of fair and balanced. I will never forget how he said it was "World" news, not just this country...and how much he hated covering the O.J./Jackson/Peterson stuff...and thus, never did.
