1. Jennings always seemed, I dunno, calmer or something

4. I think Jennings excelled in his later years.

He was so into it. He did his own newsletter every day. Compare that to Mathews and others who have their newsletters sent out. I believe Jennings had a blog. He also pushed the ABC news online edition. That was a big deal. ABC was ahead of the game during the conventions last year. Jennings was an advocate to show the conventions.

I liked all three in different ways, but Jennings loved the news and his work. He advocated it and that made him special.

14. He was calmer. Had a dignity and presence about him.

Not like he was trying to get anyone, but trying to understand and help us understand. As well as being by far the most crushable for the last 30 yrs.

3. I liked them all, and it's sad there doesn't seem to be any younger

qualified replacements!

I keep looking, and I'm old enough to remember when everyone said no one could replace Cronkite too. I'm not sure anyone ever really did!

None of the current ones appear to be able to hold a candle to the 3 major anchors that, one by one, are disappearing.

Both serious. Both have guts. Olberman is changing news for the better. He is showing that flashy cable news doesn't have to be crap and can be serious.

8. Gregory has a possibility, but as much as I love Keith, he's not

a world class investigative journalist like the old 3 anchors were. That's not meant to be a slam to Keith at all. I suspect HE would tell you that's not his game.

There's a bunch of 'em trying to be #1. Russert, Stephanpoplis(sp), Matthews, etc, but they're not going to make it! NO CREDIBILITY!!!!

when we went to the moon. So Walter Cronkite is the man! I stopped watching TV about 10 years ago. So I'm clueless.

11. I had the biggest crush on Peter Jennings as I was growing up....

I remember his and Ted Koppel's nightly reports from Viet Nam in the early 70s.

I was disappointed that Jennings appeared to have jumped on the * wagon for morons the last several years but I cut him slack for that because he was one of my first crushes.

Anyway, ABC is promoting that *-touting dipstick, Charlie Gibson into Jennings old spot. Charlie's over-the-top apologist's view of the * administration is the reason I stopped watching GMA 3-1/2 years ago. So long, ABC News!

I'm hoping my cable company picks up Current TV real soon.

Jennings that I remember from war zones before he became anchor and felt he carried his knowledge and honesty to the anchor desk. Close second would be Rather who my mother watch constantly. Cronkite always but grew up with Jennings. Now I am an Olbermann fan since he seems the only one able to stand up to * and their BS. And he was calling * on his BS before the theft of 2004. Anyone that watched Keith during the summer of 2004 couldn't of voted for the idiot.

15. I didn't vote in this poll, but I grew up with Brokaw and NBC

Mr. Jennings' passing does come somewhat as a shock to me, even though I knew he was ill. Remember the miniseries and accompanying book he did about the 20th century? Excellent work there from him. His passing is a big loss. Godspeed. O8)

but I voted Jennings since I knew of him more then Rather since I was a bit younger.

34. I guess I always favored Rather because he had

the courage to ask Poppy Bush a tough question on air about his part in Iran Contra. Poppy got all huffy and sputtered that this wasn't why he agreed to the interview. (This was when Poppy ran for President after Reagan.) Then he left the studio. After that Dan was never given access to the White House while Poppy was President. I really wonder if what they did to him to get him off the air was in retaliation for that.
