If the Bible were to be classified, what would it be?

Fiction or Non-fiction? I don't know if all books are classified in such a manner or not. I guess not because of the firestorm such a classification would create but it is a curiosity. Are all religious books not classified in such manner?

I mean, there's the obviously fictional bits, like Noah, Jonas, Adam and Eve, and so on. But let's face it -- there's no historical account of Jesus to hold the Bible's story up to either. In essence, while possibly using many historical figures, none (or very few) of the actual events depicted in the Bible are also demonstrated in historical documents or archaeological evidence.

So, definitely fiction.

All religious texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita, Q'ran, Talmud, etc, are classified as nonfiction.

Accordingly, I'd classify it as non-fiction (if you're just looking for a toggle). That doesn't mean the truths in it or any other religious text (the Koran, the Torah, the Sutra of Perfect Wisdom, etc.) should be regarded as scientific facts; they're not. To confuse science and religion does a disservice to both.
