Seven Questions You Should Be Asking About Candidate Clark
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 01:37 AM by DoveTurnedHawk
So let us now consider Wesley Clark.

If you are a Democrat, here are the questions you should be asking yourself:

1) Can a general--a lifelong military man whose career, let’s be honest, has largely been devoted to figuring out ways to have people killed--properly represent the Democrat Party?

2) Can a man who voted for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan (twice) and George W. Bush for president <DTH NOTE: This is an error by the author, Clark clearly stated on Hardball last week that he voted for Gore>; who served in Gerald Ford’s White House; who just two years ago praised the current Bush administration as a “great team” at a Republican fundraiser; and who only lately declared his political affiliation be a real Democrat?

3) Does a man famous for his single-minded ambition and long accustomed to having people say “Yes, sir!” to his every command have the personal warmth, humility, and people skills to attract independent voters and later work with Congress as president?

4) Does a Johnny-come-lately who has never held political office and who hasn’t yet fleshed out his positions on many issues (the budget deficit, health care, the death penalty) deserve to get the support of Democrats--especially Democrats who have already placed themselves in either the Dean or Kerry camps?

5) Is he just a stalking horse for Hillary?

6) Is he electable?

7) Should you start working for him?

As a lifelong left-wing pacifist-leaning Democrat, I hereby offer my own my answers:

1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) Let’s hope so. 4) Yes. 5) Of course not. 6) Yes. 7) Yes, if you want a Democrat in the White House in 2005.

16. I'm talking about...
the incessant repetition of right-wing talking points about ANY of the dem candidates.

You and I are in agreement about Clark. He has my full support.

But there's nothing in your original post that hasn't been said here 100 times, and argued 100 times, and debunked 100 times.

I'm personally fed up with the way GD has turned into a horrible candidate-bashing forum. I'd like it to stop.

That's all I'm saying.

25. and here's where we differ...
even though I prefer Clark, I'm NOT ecstatic with every thread that's created for him. I'm unhappy that SO many candidate threads with nothing new to say are being created, because it a) turns a lot of people off from GD and b) causes more important issues to get kicked off the front page.

I don't believe that my support for my candidate supercedes all other considerations. And I guess that makes me a rarity here.

28. i don't think it makes you a rarity
but i have stayed away from GD for a while, so i haven't seen a lot of these threads. i let the (many) board nannies tend to the regulation of posts, but i understand what you mean.

22. The Thing I Liked About This Column Is That a PACIFIST Wrote It
If the pacifists can support Clark, if Michael Moore can support Clark, I am more optimistic about some of the rest here doing the same, eventually.

23. lol...
ok... lemme explain.

I've spent the whole day in my moderator uniform dealing with GD, even though this isn't my beat. It was a bear here today.

My biggest pet peeve was the preponderance of new threads that said nothing new - just the same ol' shit over and over and over, which annoys me because IMPORTANT issues are getting bumped off the front page in a matter of minutes.

DTH.. I really DO appreciate your position. I just got frustrated with the sheer volume of new threads regarding ALL the candidates.

I know we agree, and I know we'd be friends if we met.

20. a little old?
I've used it exactly 3 times.

Yes, I know he said nice things about Clark. But it was in the context of repeating the same old nonsense that's been discussed here INCESSANTLY for the last few weeks.

And no, I'm not high. But I'm gonna be soon. ;)

26. I guess I read all three...
I thought he was coming close to a rational
discussion of the Clark attacks that have been
happening today.

My bad...

Have you considered :hurts: kidding.

27. hehehe...
Let me make it clear -

I meant no offense to DTH or any other poster. I'm just tired, and I've spent most of the day here in GD dealing with a whole lotta crap that never should've been posted in the first place.

We've all heard the charges against Clark. They've been discussed here ad infinitum. I just got bugged that there was Yet Another Thread on it.

Namaste.

5) No
6) MAYBE
7) MAYBE

Somewhere between flames, there are people asking legitimate questions about all of the candidates. I wish General Clark well!

I like him but want to see some treadwear to be sure
he doesn't self destruct or turn out not to be teflon
but a mud magnet.

Maybe after Iowa and NH until then I will
stick with Dean.

18. The important question.
Who is best at fixing the mess that we have now? At this point I think it is Clark. I think he is the only one with coat tails. However it is early and time will tell.

24. I tell you what: His speech at the DNC convention on cspan
along with Kerry, Lieb, and Al Franken, made me feel alot more comfortable with him. He was admitting that he was the newest democrat in the room, and he thanked the other dems, and he gave a great speech.

Maybe it'll be replayed again (intentional redundancy) on cspan.

Look for "Road to the Whitehouse"
