It was either the heart attack, or the fall (I've heard 8 feet, though I don't think that was official) that resulted from him having a heart attack on the mountain path. A post mortem is being performed. He had high blood pressure, and had collapsed once in public before, in a restaurant.

Or John Candy, for that matter. Reggie White had used steroids (he did apologize for his homophobic remarks, thankfully.) I don't know, but would not be shocked to hear that Robert Palmer and Joe Strummer might both have used cocaine. And John Candy, though I loved him, did not take any care of himself. I loved the Clash too. I don't wish these people to die - but a lot of it was residual from earlier behavior.

Edited to add that Flo-Jo probably used performance enhancers, also.

he smoked cigarettes, but he was not a coke head. In his younger days, he was also a bit of a pill popper, but he gave that up early on.

As for Florence Griffith Joyner, her autopsy revealed that performance enhancing drugs played no part in her death.

at the time of his death.

Flo-Jo had been plagued with rumors for years that she used some kind of performance drugs (and we know there are many that don't show up in normal testing.) The coroner only said that such drugs were not the immediate cause of death. It was her fellow athletes who made the most accusations.

I'm not trying to dog these people, most of whom I was a huge fan of (particularly Joe Strummer and John Candy.) Same with Chris Farley and John Belushi - they just wreaked too much havoc on their bodies.
