What the fuck is going on. I come home from work to find out that HSD is hooking up with the "Bible Brats" in Colorado Springs AFB to protect Americans from what?

Now Iran has suddenly become SOOOOO dangerous that an meeting is being held tommorrow at the UN to discuss IRAN!

Now CNN is having an Iran danger alert. I'm getting a bad feeling about this.

6. If anything happens in Iran
because of the new Iran-Iraq military alliance, the US would automatically be declaring war on the new "democratically elected" government of Iraq, meaning that the troops currently being trained by the US would be obligated to attack their trainers.

It would also, necissarily, mean a draft - immediately.

Check out Al Jazeera's coverage of Iran today. It looks like they are not playing ball with the EU but UN inspectors are on site and have not sounded any alarms.

9. HALLIBURTON Secretly Doing Business with Key Member of Iran’s Nuclear Team
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 04:31 PM by IanDB1
HALLIBURTON Secretly Doing Business with Key Member of Iran’s Nuclear Team

Scandal-plagued Halliburton, the oil services company once headed by Vice
President Dick Cheney was secretly working with one of Iran’s top nuclear
scientists on natural gas related projects and, allegedly, selling the
scientists’ oil company key components for a nuclear reactor, according to
Halliburton sources with intimate knowledge of both companies’ business
dealings.

Just last week a National Security Council report said Iran was a decade away
from acquiring a nuclear bomb. That time frame could arguably have been
significantly longer if Halliburton, which just reported a 284 percent increase
in its fourth quarter profits due to its Iraq reconstruction contracts, was not
actively providing the Iranian government with the financial means to build a
nuclear weapon.

Now comes word that Halliburton, which has a long history of flouting U.S. law
by conducting business with countries the Bush administration said has ties to
terrorism, was working with Cyrus Nasseri, the vice chairman of Oriental Oil
Kish, one of Iran’s largest private oil companies, on oil development projects
in Tehran. Nasseri is also a key member of Iran’s nuclear development team.

“Nasseri, a senior Iranian diplomat negotiating with Europe over Iran's
controversial nuclear program is at the heart of deals with US energy companies
to develop the country's oil industry”, the Financial Times reported....

11. NORTHCOM!
this is a really good blog.......

August 08, 2005
Homeland Insecurity
I'm not sure what to make of this Washington Post article. It seems to suggest that DOD is developing "quick reaction forces" that could be up to 3,000 people for responding to multiple, large-scale terrorist strikes within the United States.

The possible scenarios range from "low end," relatively modest crowd-control missions to "high-end," full-scale disaster management after catastrophic attacks such as the release of a deadly biological agent or the explosion of a radiological device, several officers said.

Some of the worst-case scenarios involve three attacks at the same time, in keeping with a Pentagon directive earlier this year ordering Northcom, as the command is called, to plan for multiple simultaneous attacks.

The war plans represent a historic shift for the Pentagon, which has been reluctant to become involved in domestic operations and is legally constrained from engaging in law enforcement. Indeed, defense officials continue to stress that they intend for the troops to play largely a supporting role in homeland emergencies, bolstering police, firefighters and other civilian response groups.

But the new plans provide for what several senior officers acknowledged is the likelihood that the military will have to take charge in some situations, especially when dealing with mass-casualty attacks that could quickly overwhelm civilian resources.

"In my estimation, a biological, a chemical or nuclear attack in any of the 50 states, the Department of Defense is best positioned -- of the various eight federal agencies that would be involved -- to take the lead," said Adm. Timothy J. Keating, the head of Northcom, which coordinates military involvement in homeland security operations.

Now last month, DOD published its Strategy for Homeland Defense and Civil Support. Reading the document, I assumed it was focused on external threats to the country, hardening the defense and civil critical infrastructure, and supporting state/local emergency responders (in that order). Now I'm not so sure. A while ago, I read in InsideDefense that one of those 15 scenarios was responding to a group of 100-200 terrorists that took over a nuclear or chemical plant, and the locals couldn't respond in force. I thought that was so crazy that I just disregarded the story. Now I wonder if some crazy lunatic in NORTHCOM is planning up response plans that resemble the Illinois National Guard's pursing the Blues Brothers into the Chicago city hall.

I will take exception to Keating's suggestion that DOD is the best federal agency to respond to a terrorist CBRN incident. My view of the world, taking into account past histories and future possibilities, is that terrorist CBRN incidents will most likely be small-scale, single in nature and not mass casualty events endangering whole metropolitan cities. And since DHS, DHHS, and EPA have dibs on any terrorist CBRN incident, by the National Response Plan's view at least, it's hard to see where Keating is justified in his statement. Will DOD assist in any response to a terrorist CBRN incident? Yes, of course. But they won't be the lead, and they won't get there first. I think NORTHCOM needs a serious slap on the side of the head. They're writing checks that DOD can't cash.

17. Yeah but
the London bombings proved that to be a lie! I wonder if the right will continue to parrot this lie after another terrorist attack on US soil.

As for the OP, at least Iran is somewhat of an actual THREAT...as opposed to Iraq which had nothing in terms of nukes and never threatened the US. And Iraq had no ties to terrorism. We know there are in fact terror groups in Iran.

Regardless, Bushies need another war to divert attention away from the failing war in Iraq, the Plamegate scandal, and Bush's falling polls.

Iran resumes nuclear work; the West scrambles

International Atomic Energy Agency to hold an emergency meeting Tuesday - a step closer toward a showdown at UN.

By Howard LaFranchi | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

WASHINGTON – - Iran's resumption of uranium conversion Monday is set to be taken up at an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Tuesday - a move that could result in referral of the Iranian nuclear issue to the United Nations Security Council.
The council, in turn, could set in motion an international effort to isolate Iran politically and economically, something Iran has long wished to avoid.
The flurry of activity over Iran followed the Islamic Republic's terse rejection over the weekend of a European offer of economic incentives, including help with nuclear-energy generation, in exchange for verifiably giving up all nuclear activities that could lead to a bomb. The events represent a ratcheting up of a confrontation with the West that some officials in the United States have long considered inevitable, given their assumption that Iran is determined to join the nuclear club.

Western officials likened Iran's step to an "in-your-face move" by a nation in a political transition, with a new president in tune with the reigning conservative mullahs. But Iranian officials, who insist their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, say the activity is part of Iran's right to develop nuclear power.

and I think Iraq was a total mistake and a failure of foreign policy. John Kerry was RIGHT!! Piss me off that Bush stole what, 2 elections now. Kerry would have been so much better. Anyhow, yes, there are legit concerns with Iran. I just wonder if we COULD do anything about it, because all of our troops (God bless 'em) are so overextended to begin with and they're having problems in Iraq. My question is why did Bush invade a country that had nothing to do with terrorism, no WMDs and never threatened the US?? Why didn't we go after the ones we KNEW were a problem before it got too late (Iran & North Korea)?

Where would we get the troops for an Iran invasion anyhow?
