Also, he/she won't be able to take any protectionist measures against China because China owns 400 billion of that debt and, if provoked, could flood the market with US bonds and sink the US economy.

1. Because their wealthy supporters don't want to pay

2. To starve the government and create an excuse for cutting social programs to the bone.

A Democratic president could fix the whole thing with minimal public outcry by just raising the taxes on the wealthy and lowering them on everyone else. Cut back on corporate welfare to boot.

i agree any criminal element in the government needs to be arrested, but there have to be solutions to paying down deficits and the national debt other than "arrest them all."

i'm inclined to bring back some form of tariffs on goods coming into the country in order to bring in additional revenue for the government.
