This is an informal message board, not a formal written situation nor speaking engagement.

17. Do you understand the difference?
You don't know why someone makes mistakes.
If somebody's flaming you or being condescending, fine, spell check them to death, I would.
But that wasn't the case here.

24. Your time's coming
Just wait until YOUR fingers start typing words that you weren't thinking and you wonder why "this" is on the screen when you clearly thought "these"; and words like their, there and they're are always typed wrong despite the fact that you've known the difference since you were 8 years old. Just you wait.

20. It took me three years...
...to figure out how to post on this site.

Pardon me, but I believe presentation goes a long way to establishing accountability.

I've had plenty wine tonight, but I still know the difference between "their" and "there". No child left behind?

Let's hold THEM accountable for our "speling" issues then...

That people around here usually tolerate spelling and typographical errors. It's considered rude to point them out gratuitously.

I know, sometimes I bite my tongue, I've taught writing. As Scottie points out, you don't know the reason, but you get the message. Some people just don't do well with keyboards. Their ideas may be good though.

I share your frustration with DUers who can't differentiate between "there" and "their"...and the irony is that many of "us" ridicule Freepers when they do the same thing. We should at the very least try to be better than them, I would think. I often write posts in a virtual drunken stupor but I watch the words as I type and almost always see mistakes as they appear magically on the cathode ray tube in front my my old but yet functioning eyes. :D

I checked out the Stars and Stripes website this afternoon and there was nothing there. I don't know if the Army Times gets to the people there or if it's just a national publication....my guess is the latter.

i do wonder about the troops. how they feel about what is happening over here. if they know our feelings on the war and bush isnt reflective of them personally. many many of us are so opposed to the war exactly because of their experience and lost of life in a losing cause, and those of the innocent iraqi's. though regardless of us pulling out of iraq, i feel the iraqi's will continue to be in a shit load of pain, due to our interference.

28. Considering all they get for "news" is FOX ,
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 11:19 PM by johnaries
probably not. Which brings up an excellent point! Many of our troops over there only get the "real news" from blogs and emails. Think of the 21st century version of "Radio Free Europe".

So, it's probably up to us to find some way to let them know that Cindy is leading a movement to try and save their lives, and that there are those of us here at home that actually care about them and their well-being.

Excellent post!

BTW, I hope I spelled everything correctly. I would hope that most people would pay attention to the message itself, but there is always someone who wants to "nitpick" instead of trying to understand.

Again, EXCELLENT POST! :hi:

Oh, if there is some TOM, dick, or Harry wondering if I was obliquely referring to them and their spelling critique, I offer the Parable of the Foo Bird and it's moral;

"If the Foo Shits, WEAR IT!"

31. Again, not picking nits...
I just don't want us DU'ers to be the next "morans".

The Freepers are watching us, and we don't want to give them any more "hollow-point" ammo than they already have stashed in their pick-ups.

Can't believe that this post is getting more action than all of the political stuff that I have posted, but c'est la vie.

Sent a card to Cindy today.

Also - just a little anecdote...met a soldier in a bank in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. He had returned from Iraq the day before and was trying to deposit his paycheck with his military ID that had all kinds of history on him with a trick chip that probably detailed his birthmarks. Very fine young man. He was wearing a T-shirt that said on the back "Who's Your Baghdaddy?" and said the same thing on the front in Arabic. He got it in the PX in Iraq.

Brought it all home - and then some...

45. With Bush's "accent" you can tell it's phoney
Just listen to Poppy, Jeb, Barbara and they don't have the accent. Listen to Laura. She does. Bush's accent has gone away. Mighty strange isn't it? My dad is originally from Michigan and his family moved here to Tennessee when he was a bit older and he doesn't have a southern accent like my brother, mother and I who are all from the south. Anybody can clearly see that Bush is a fake southern boy. I remember reading a post here at DU once and someone posted how when Bush first ran for Congress in 1978 that people didn't buy his act and then he "met" Laura and people started liking him. Quite pathetic I think.

46. ID Card
Pretty much everything that he had seen and done. Yes, very scary. I spend a LOT of time in hub-airports - and see a lot of soldiers coming and going...and it is very hard to see these young (and sometimes not so young) men and women going to that awful, terrible place on our behalf... it is just so damn hard sometimes...especially when their wives and children get to go to the gate to seem them off to whatever the future holds for them - may we never see them on the news.

In the airports, if they have sand on their boots and suitcases, they are coming home - if not, they are headed to a place we do not want to imagine.

Viet Nam Vet from TX who hates Bush.

P.S. They actually make the soldiers in uniform take their boots off going thru airport security. How messed up is THAT!!!? What are they fighting for anyway?
