Comments from school board Trustee Kevin Post on a conservative Web site have drawn criticism from other board members and parents who believe the postings may promote intolerance.

"We make board policy," fellow Trustee Doug Hieter said, citing concerns over Post's comments. "Board policy governs how people are treated in the school." Some comments could be deemed homophobic. Others criticize people Post apparently believes hurt society.

Some of the Web comments by Post, according to published reports, include: "F the Democrats! I am a former Republican Committeeman in the Town of Plattekill/County of Ulster in New York State. School Board-Elect member of the Hyde Park School Board. I will eventually be a Republican Committeeman in the Town of Hyde Park/County of Dutchess in New York State."

On an anti-war demonstration in New Paltz involving Women in Black, a group that protests the Iraq conflict: "This evening we FReeped the d——, women? - in black again." Post used a derogatory term for lesbians. The term "FReeped" apparently refers to actions by those who visit the Free Republic Web site, where Post reportedly posted the comments on www. freerepublic.com as "kphockey2."

3. Workers in Calif. got fired: Auto club fires 27 in message board crackdown
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2005-08-06-posters-fired_x.htm?csp=34

A California automobile club has fired 27 workers for posting messages on a popular social networking Web site.

The Automobile Club of Southern California fired the employees in one of its San Diego offices after at least one worker complained to management about feeling harassed by the comments, which were written by employees on the MySpace.com Web site on their own time at home.

Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp said comments were made about other workers' weight and sexual orientation. "When a worker complains about harassment, you take it seriously," Thorp said Friday.

"This isn't a free speech issue," said Thorp. "You can't just go on and say anything about anybody — and keep your job."

6. Brags about trying to cut school's reduced lunch $ program
What a loser....

http://www.dailyfreeman.com/site/printerFriendly.cfm?brd=1769&dept_id=74969&newsid=14953184

ON JULY 5, four days after Post started his school board term, he wrote: "Got to vote against the national school lunch program/reduced or free meals tonight. I hope it turned some heads." In another posting, he wrote that in "my first official meeting as a member of the skool board, I cast a NO vote on the participation of our district in the Nation(al) School Lunch program. Too bad the lemmings said yes."

<snip>

"This is not the type of opinion, belief or core belief that I think the majority of the board has, so I don't believe that anybody has anything to worry about," Sheehan said. "We've had board members in the past that have provided some distraction, entertainment, so it is what it is. People who choose their elected officials have the right to do so, and they have the right to decide whether that's somebody they agree with or that's somebody they don't agree with."
