1. Yes. If the world were run by women it would have a chance.
Too much testosterone out there and too much left-brained thinking.

33. Men Are Not Cost Effective
book title I saw once ... can't remember the author.

jacket flap copy said something to the effect when you look at costs of crime, prisons, social services, deadbeat dads, stuff like that it's men who cost society more overall.

Anyone ever read that book?

54. Boxer/Conyers for president!
Both are tough as nails. It really is true that our women are tougher than our men. Probably something to do with having to fight their way to office through a barrier of discrimination. Our male Democratic politicians have gone soft and feeble from lack of excercise (of their free will).

8. And John Conyers
But there is a point to be made here - the strong voices in the Democratic party are, in vast majority, women. Not just that, but the woman being put forth for the presidency is arguably the weakest of the bunch in terms of what we're discussing here.

58. Not so sure we speak different dialectics
Well howdy there, NW56.

One thing DU has shown me is the distinction b-w those who see "discussion" as a (learning) process and those who view it as a competition (fill in your own over-generalization ______).

This is (and this thread and the names of hero/ines exemplify) why the "language matters" thing is important. And why habits of thought/expression that exclude valuable voices from the mix are counter-productive. We have seen how assumptions get in the way, right?

The extensive knowledge you have of the history behind all this veers right back round to where we are and where the answers are to be found........ The knowledge will inform the manner in which we discuss the ideas.

Maybe even a dialogue (one can dream).

but since I have no living child (and no longer teach), that's often difficult. A dialogue might be truly challenging -- and therefore perfect. I assume by your response you recognize the song from which I quoted: please feel free to PM me if you so choose.

14. In a divorce custody of the child(ren) is given to the mother
more often than the father, or joint custody. Why does that not translate to women at least having equal custody of the world? Control without nurture is wayoff balance.
Our poor Mother Earth and her teeming masses who struggle with old power-crazed men causing some of the poorest to keep having more babies they can't feed, who barely survive and can not thrive....And causing the slightly better-off "coalition" countries to have sons and daughters blown up or shot in senseless wars.
These go against life force, which is really what God is...

Save lives, time, money and sanity: Get rid of your own crazy leaders before our crazy leaders try to do it for you.

The courts generally look at the parent who has actually been providing for the care and control of the children. Generally and demographically, the moms do this. So, the courts, in an effort to minimize disruption to the kiddos, leave the children in the primary care of the parent who usually cares for them - in most cases, the women.

During many of my cases, the fathers (and half of the time they are my clients) say they want primary custody of the children. They can't win their case if they don't know the names of the children's doctors, teachers, friends, etc. :hi:

Spine, not spin, I say!

WOW Thank you all, GREAT comments and check the positivity!

Cindy Sheehan provided the perfect example to point out the power of the inspired individual, the courage and strength that comes from conviction, resolute and peaceful-- not necessarily "in your face" but definitely IN YOUR DITCH, Mr. Bush.

People Have the Power
--Patti Smith

I was dreaming in my dreaming
of an aspect bright and fair
and my sleeping it was broken
but my dream it lingered near
in the form of shining valleys
where the pure air recognized
and my senses newly opened
I awakened to the cry
that the people / have the power
to redeem / the work of fools
upon the meek / the graces shower
it's decreed / the people rule

The people have the power
The people have the power
The people have the power
The people have the power

Vengeful aspects became suspect
and bending low as if to hear
and the armies ceased advancing
because the people had their ear
and the shepherds and the soldiers
lay beneath the stars
exchanging visions
and laying arms
to waste / in the dust
in the form of / shining valleys
where the pure air / recognized
and my senses / newly opened
I awakened / to the cry

Refrain

Where there were deserts
I saw fountains
like cream the waters rise
and we strolled there together
with none to laugh or criticize
and the leopard
and the lamb
lay together truly bound
I was hoping in my hoping
to recall what I had found
I was dreaming in my dreaming
god knows / a purer view
as I surrender to my sleeping
I commit my dream to you

Refrain

The power to dream / to rule
to wrestle the world from fools
it's decreed the people rule
it's decreed the people rule
LISTEN
I believe everything we dream
can come to pass through our union
we can turn the world around
we can turn the earth's revolution
we have the power
People have the power ...

For every Cindy Sheehan there's a Howard Dean.

For every....well, you get the idea.

I'm a woman, but I don't think for a minute that women are better or worse than men. We've got way more in common than not.

Just my .02 (billion...)

75. It's a metaphor. It doesn't bother me.
Somebody tells me I have balls, I take it as the compliment it is...even if they didn't mean it to be complimentary.

77. No it's not
It's a limp, worn-out, shriveled-up obsolete cliche that's lost its bounce and outlived its usefulness.

It doesn't do justice to the energy and power exemplified by these women. It's cheap and ugly and crude. They are anything but.

76. Some say
Some say we're moving into an era in which men and women will finally reach real parity in power. If it's to happen at all, I imagine this is the way it would look at the beginning.

This boy says, "Three cheers for girl power!"

78. Egalitarianism is the outcome of honest assessment of the problems we face
...awareness of how those problems arise; and dedication to doing something about them.

Here's to strong women, cool men, parity, girl/boy/power and jokerman93!

80. Oh bullshit!
Quit with this sexist crap and these threads trying to start more shit on here.
Let me start a thread that says "Did you notice that the "balls" Dems/DU were lookin' for belong to men?" Let's see how far that one goes.
Stop it with these sexist threads people, it's getting fucking old.

82. TOO late! Women kick-started the evolution without you! but don't WORRY
:hi: when you stop missing the point on purpose, we'll be ready to embrace you :pals:

Seriously tho, Allred E. OldMan, the question was good-natured and fair. It also points up the short-sightedness of equating courage, strength, ability and vitality with BALLS.

Sexism is detrimental to the goals of DU and the Dems. After all the fun, celebration of fe/male hero/ines and camaraderie of this thread, your sour accusations are

Check out http://www.backbonecampaign.org. Pretty cool.

81. Ovaries!
These women are drawing the line in the sand. And it seems, that behind them, the men that the media have effectively silenced are getting more of a voice. It's hard to stop a pissed off woman. I have a friend who counsels alcoholics. He says you know what happened? A bunch of mothers got MAD and now your ass is going to jail or treatment when you drink and drive. And it's true, MADD effectively changed the way we look at drunk driving.
